One shot items

Being very new to this game, and new to RPG games in general, I have a question regarding one-shot items.

Lets say that I am a level 4 human, and knock down the door only to find a Gazebo. I have a one-shot item that gives me +5. An opponent makes the Gazebo Humongous, and I now cannot beat the Gazebo. So, I opt to run away. Do I discard my one-shot item, or would I only do that if I were able to defeat the monster?

Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere. I tried to find the answer before I posted. Thanks in advance!

You used it, so you have to discard it.

I'm not sure whether the original poster USED the one-shot Item or merely had it available. If you use the Item, it goes away whether or not you win the fight. However, even if you have it in play, you're not required to use it if there's no reason.

Good point, Andrew. The more I read it, the more I can't say he said he used it. So, I amend (lest anyone thinks I might be disagreeing with you): If you used it, you have to discard it. Otherwise, no.

He sured used it. He says that he is level 4. So he cannot beat the Gazebo. Than he says he has an one-shot item. Then his friend played an enhancer, because he says: NOW I cannot beat the Gazebo. He would not be able to beat it before if he had not used it.

But, well, there you go, the answer was already given by Erik. =)

Re: One shot items

Thank you for the answers. I understand that I may not have been completely clear in my original post. If I declare that I am using said one-shot item to beat the Gazebo, and then the Gazebo is powered up - forcing me to run away - then I have used said one-shot item, correct?

However, if the Gazebo was powered up by another player BEFORE I declare my intent to use the one-shot item on it (and instead I choose to run away), I get to retain the item, correct?

All of this is assuming that the one shot item was being carried, not played from my hand.

Sorry if I am making more out of this than should be. Just want to make sure we're doing it right.

Thanks.

Correct in both cases.
