I remember reading about pilgrimage souvenirs but never realized that they were literally badges of honor. That changes my frame of reference for them. Neat.

There was a whole late medieval industry devoted to turning out pewter or lead pilgrimage badges as well as satirical, sexually explicit "anti-pilgrimage" badges. The latter were presumably worn by people annoyed with the hypocrisy and false piety of some pilgrims (e.g., some of the pilgrims in Canterbury Tales).

It's also a nice "spoiled kid/pet" quirk. I've got cats with this quirk.

I only just realized I had a strongly preferred seat at my doctor's office. It's a small practice and rarely busy, so I guess I always sat in the same chair. Last week, there was someone in MY seat. Funny how you can have quirks without realizing it. I wasn't a jerk, but boy was I uncomfortable waiting.

Now that is not something I've heard even a hint about. I keep forgetting that of course people of the past loved taking the p*ss just as much as any modern internet poster.

Gives me an image of a kind of pilgrimage pub crawl.

I, too, find this entertaining. I may need to incorporate it into my SCA kit.

If you don't mind sharing, do you have a link to the research on this? PM me if that is more appropriate.

Custom Quirk: Even hotdesking, this is *MY* space; go reserve someplace else!

Achilles Foot
Strikes to your left foot give double shock penalties. Your GM may let you substitute the body part, so you could have Achilles Right Foot, Achilles Left Hand, Achilles Back or Achilles Skull, to name a few.

GMs might want to restrict this quirk to just Hit Locations with a "to hit" modifier or -3 to -7, otherwise you get weirdnesses like "Achilles' Left Eye".

I have another version of this quirk which works identically:

Glass Jaw

Doubles all Stun penalties from hits to the Jaw.

Also, this perk gets seriously bad if it applies to hit locations which already carry Stun modifiers, like the Groin.

As a variation:

Easy to Subdue (Location)
Each level of this quirk gives you a -1 penalty to resist Unconsciousness or other non-lethal wounding effects from a hit to a particular body location with a "to hit" modifier of -2 to -7 (e.g., Easy to Subdue (Skull or Vitals).

Busy Hands
You need to keep your hands busy in order to concentrate on a lengthy mental task, or your attention will wander, giving you -4 on the skill roll. You probably have one or a few favored activities for your hands. Examples include tossing dice, knitting or other craft-work, pruning your nails with a knife, and oiling a sword or other simple maintenance work. This is a quirk-level Short Attention Span with Mitigator, Accessibility: Only Mental Tasks, and a limitation that allows you to roll at -4 instead of failing outright.

Re: New and Custom Quirks?

You have an allergy or a food intolerance. This is a quirk-level Chronic Pain, Draining, Restricted Diet, Susceptible, Unusual Biochemistry or Vulnerability, as shown below:

Painful Allergy
You have an allergy that flares up occasionally, for example an allergy to the pollen of a certain plant. Define a period during which you are at risk of exposure and a frequency of appearance number; the longer the period, the lower the FoA number should be. During your at-risk period, roll daily against the FoA number. If you roll <= FoA, you get -2 to DX, IQ and self control rolls for one hour sometime during that day. If you take the necessary precautions, the GM may let you skip the roll for that day or lower the FoA number.

Draining Allergy
As Painful Allergy, but instead of taking -2 to various rolls, you take 1 point of damage. This damage doesn't start to heal until you have gone a full day without having to roll against FoA.

Dietary Intolerance
There is a foodstuff that your body can't digest properly. Roll HT every time you consume a meaningful amount. Failure means your HT drops by 1 until the substance has passed through your body, then you regenerate 1 HT per 24 hours. The HT loss is cumulative, but HT will not go lower than 1 unless you are trying to kill yourself (or someone else is).

Susceptible Allergy
You are extremely sensitive to one particular substance that most people wouldn't consider toxic. If you are exposed to trace quantities of the substance, roll HT+1. If you fail, you suffer a minor effect like fatigue loss or an irritating condition that you must specify as you take this quirk. If you are exposed to larger quantities of the substance, roll as above, but treat any failure as a critical failure. This could cause incapacitation or primary attribute loss.

Biochemical Allergy
One particular drug intended for your race/species has unpredictable effects on you. When you receive that drug, roll as for Unusual Biochemistry.

Vulnerable Allergy
As Susceptible Allergy, but you take 1d damage instead for failed HT+1 rolls on minor doses, upgraded to 4d damage for failed rolls on major doses.
