He is perfectly capable of driving a hovercraft. And that's about it.

Take your mouse and highlight the space in the middle of my last IC post.

{FNORD} {/FNORD} with [] instead of {} will hide the tagged text.

If that's the case, though, I should probably retcon my comments about financing. Anyone wealthy enough to buy a ship is probably too wealthy to make an interesting character for this game, if he doesn't blow it all on the ship. (My thought was that Kevin had an extremely large amount of inappropriately acquired money he wanted to spend quickly, but in general was used to having less than that).

Just like the captain, who I'm assuming got a big enough bonus from the navy to get him started with the ship, but who otherwise doesn't exceptional wealth.

What kind of commisions are there likely to be for this ship? I assume Captain Mendiblis would have had some idea of what he wanted to do before going into this, but I don't know what would make sense given the gameworld.

I agree, that's why I'm going that way even though the bank would probably be a safer choice for CM.

The boring off-stage jobs (ie, what happens between adventures) will be hauling cargo (and sometimes passengers) to or from worlds too poor to have regular freight line visits. Adventures will be offers for unusual cargo or someone wanting to charter the ship. Some adventures might start with discovering something unusual while doing a boring run.

The system is roughly divided into three areas:
The Rim: Poor, newly colonized worlds, still recovering from a failed rebellion against the Alliance. Usually get charged double for transportation since there's no guarantee of picking up a cargo for the other leg of the trip.
Border Worlds: Civilized but rough around the edges, will usually have a job available soon. Paquin is one of these. Some border worlds also participated in the rebellion.
The Core: The heart of the Alliance. The first worlds terraformed and settled, very rich, dominated by large corporations whose cut-throat rates don't leave much room for a tramp freighter to find work.

Actual distances between worlds don't match those divisions given how they move in their orbits. Translation: travel time will always match the needs of the plot.

For those not familiar with a Firefly ship, here's some exterior images and a cross-section. For the deckplan, this has the top and bottom decks and here's the "middle deck" areas. The crew quarters are below the forward corridor in the upper deck. The catwalks are over the cargo back on the lower deck. The shuttles are accessed from the catwalks. There's some ambiguous spots in those plans--for our game there's five crew cabins and four passenger cabins. Note that the doctor has a one-bed infirmary to work in.

I'll take any available room, I don't really mind, to be honest.
