"wandering monster" question - cthulhu

ok, last night we had a pretty heated game (I just bought the 2nd cthulhu expansion)
I was level 9, and I kick down the door, Gnarlyhotep (lvl 16) I can kill it no problem.
The guy across from me puts down wandering monster with an Ozagoth (lvl 18?)
I put down song of "madness 3" to kill Ozagoth. He starts complaining that thats not legit, and that the monsters become 1, and that I cant do that.
What do the rules say? I'm not sure. Any ideas?

The monsters don't become one monster - the wandering monster is an additional one, and some cards even specify "if it's the only monster" or stuff regarding another monster remaining once it removes one. Ozathoth simply explodes, leaving you to beat up Gnarlythotep.

Re: "wandering monster" question - cthulhu

The Monsters Levels and abilities do, in fact, combine. That, however, doesn't change the fact that they are still two, separate Monsters for many different purposes. So, let me quote the rules for a moment: "If you have the right cards, you can eliminate one monster from the combat and fight the other normally, but you cannot choose to fight one and run from the other(s)." You had the "right card," in that instance, to remove one Monster. I would also bet that the card you played has instructions which indicate an understanding that another Monster may have been involved the combat and how to handle the situation of remaining Monsters. Further evidence with which to explain to your friend how he is mistaken.

By the way, all the rules are online. Here are those for Munchkin Cthulhu.
