Alien Generation Worksheet
 

I have created a simple worksheet for the alien-generation system in GURPS Space. I would appreciate any constructive criticism that anyone may have. OpenDocument format. EDIT: No no, now it's in PDF.

It's not a spreadsheet that generates aliens for you; it's just a worksheet like the official one for creating worlds and star systems.

And, there, is a kink in the opensource plan and source of Microsoft world domination. :D

Given the layout of the file, though, on the bright side the original poster can export it as PDF and--hey presto!--good to go once again.

What file format was it originally since no one actually said.

I did say: it was in OpenDocument format (e.g., OpenOffice.org). Now it's in PDF.

I like it, but I potential for more. E.g. include info to make make random choices.

Personally, I like making both the original document and the PDF available to people so they can, if they want, take the time to modify the document if they wish. Also, I like to make sure to include copyright information, just to ensure compliance with SJGames online policy.

Other than that I do like the worksheet.

There is far too much in the book for making random choices to put on the sheet. I don't see how it could be done. I simply found myself taking as much time writing each heading than writing the results, so I wrote the sheet to eliminate writing the headings and reducing writing the results to (mostly) checking boxes.

If you've got an idea about how to add the information you're talking about, I'm all ears.

Well, instead of thinking about a static document, you could begin to look at options introduced through more advanced PDF. Thus, you could generate a "form" where you input data and it makes specific calculations for you... Or roll dice and throw the input in another area or... Okay, I'll shut up now.

... Of course, it's suddenly requiring a lot more expertise as well, and if you're doing it for fun then you probably should be doing it to get paid as well. :D

Indeed, it succeeds at that brilliantly.

I did this on a massive spreadsheet. Unfortunately, my new computer won't run that spreadsheet program.
