Impromptu Dungeon Fantasy Game
My wife and I went to hang out with our friend today, and beyond cooking burgers, there wasn't a concrete plan for activities. I suggested they make GURPS characters and I would run a one-shot.
Thus were born Sarina Sea-Foam, sea elf Druid-Scout, and Hinter Oakleaf, high elf Wizard. Templates (and Character Assistant) made building two 300-point DF characters a breeze, and I was able to construct an adventure out of nothing more than DF2 and a map on the inside cover of the D&D module from last year's Free RPG Day. We sat outside all afternoon roleplaying the elves' adventures in the ruined outpost of a forgotten mad archlich, ate some really good burgers, and had a great time. I really couldn't ask for a better way to spend a Saturday. Thanks go out to SJ Games, and especially to Dr. Kromm for putting Dungeon Fantasy together. I recommend an afternoon like today's to everyone out there that likes GURPS. |

Sounds like good times.

I should add that our friend had barely played GURPS before and never a wizard, but he fell into it amazingly quickly. The grimoire pages printed out of Character Assistant helped tremendously.

Re: Impromptu Dungeon Fantasy Game
I remember having one of those :)
It was about 2 years ago, when I first started playing GURPS. I went to my friend's house, not planning anything in particular. A friend of his suddenly arrived, offering to teach us a pretty fascinating game to play. So, little by little, we ended up with two 100 point characters (3rd edition GURPS). I was playing a gnome thiefling, while my friend played a elven mage. And so we sat there, rolling dices for the first time and just dungeon looting for the first time. My friend found some snacks and got us some beer, and so we played from 2 PM to about 4 AM. That's when I got hooked :) |
Re: Impromptu Dungeon Fantasy Game
My friends and I have developed some basic rules regarding a "series of one-shot adventures" with all of us having one or more 350pt dungeon fantasy characters. Whenever a game gets canceled or we are looking for something to do, somebody agrees to GM, and we all break out our Tavern (K)Nights characters and have at.
