Jordites and Choir/species connections

After my latest post about the Jordite animal-shelter lady, some related thoughts occurred to me: the Core Rules imply that Jordi assigns animal vessels rigidly, based mainly on his servitors' Choir. Personally, I doubt he's that strict about it, so I allowed some "wiggle room" in my house rules:
  • Some animal species/families don't even have Choir correspondences, but it's hard to believe that Jordi would turn down those animals as vessels (or assign only his fellow Kyriotates to protect them). An Ofanite in Jordi's service might well prefer a swift but flightless animal form, for instance--they'd love being able to run and leap like a wild deer. And a Malakite who wants to keep humans from logging in an old-growth forest may prefer a grizzly-bear vessel; it's no canine, but it's aggressive and tenacious enough for the job!
  • Similarly, I allow Jordites to take human vessels IF their Role involves protecting animal life: a Cherub in his service may be a park ranger attuned to the habitat of a local endangered species, and an Elohite may be a researcher at a veterinary clinic (dedicated to finding cruelty-free testing alternatives). Jordites in human vessels don't earn dissonance for following human social conventions, unless that results in an animal suffering needless harm. They typically believe that other animals have rights equal to those of humans, but they don't place one above the other.

Re: Jordites and Choir/species connections

I can testify that she gets some interesting situations out of her Jordites. Her animal shelter manager that she mentioned is very dedicated and very much against putting animals "down" just because they were unwanted or disliked by human society -- which made it all the more ironic when her car was trashed by two different groups of protesters outside the shelter.

Actually, the main thing that the core rules say is that all servitors of Jordi (except Kyrios, of course) must purchase at least one animal vessel to start with. My perspective on Jordi is that so that when one of his servitors does have a human vessel (because he's not ignorant that mankind rather dominates the foray--he just doesn't like it), said servitor still won't be out of touch with what it's like to see from an animal's perspective, either.

The rules also don't explicitly state that the animal vessel should be in the species that each Choir tends to be tuned to. I see no reason a Malakite couldn't have a gorilla vessel as their primary--specifically if they were stationed (or requested) to watch over the gorilla cages at a zoo, for example.

There's very little canon on the Archangel of Animals, but his basic persepective as I read it, seems to be less of a "I hate humans" viewpoint and leans more towards, "humans are fine and all, but they're not the end-all and shouldn't be receiving the only attention from Heaven." So, it's that Jordi won't work within civilization, but he's the only one truly keeping an eye out for the rest of walking/flying/swimming life.
