ships booty question
I was playing Booty Sunday with someone who picked it up at GenCon. We had one question. If you have a cheat card, can you play a ship enhancer without a ship?
Thanks Rick T. |
Re: ships booty question
This has been addressed fairly clearly before. A ship enhancer is just like an item enhancer and thus not an item, so you can't play a cheat card on it.

Re: ships booty question
It depends on whether it has a value on the card. Having not played Booty yet, I don't know if the ship enhancers have a value. If they do, they count as items, if not, then they don't. All of the item enhancers so far have not had a value, but things like steed and hireling enhancers do. I was playing just a few hours ago and had a hireling enhancer(Mean Medicine) cheated.

Re: ships booty question
The ship enhancers do have a value on the card.

Re: ships booty question
Steed Enhancers, even if they have a Gold Piece value, indicate that they need to be placed with a Steed. Ship Enhancers and Ships, same thing. I'm not immediately seeing myself allowing it should someone try it on me. Needs more thought. . .

FWIW, I'm with MunchkinMan in the "no, that's stupid" camp, but other people in the playtest argued that because ship enhancers have a GP value, they are legal to play with a Cheat card. I think this needs a formal ruling and probably a FAQ note, if not an erratum. |

But someone cheating a "Poop Deck" really is amusing. |
Re: ships booty question
My playtest copy of the Booty rules say that the GP value is to be added to he Ship's value. The cards also seem to say "Ship Enhancer" on them, so that puts them in a different class of Item, too.
This is one of those cases where I'm trying to see what was intended or preferred and then figure out how to fix it so we can document it properly. |
