Re: List Of your favorite Custom Perks

Perk level of serendipity: Will always find a match. The character is a boxer. In many amateur fight cards, some fighters don't end up fighting due to lack of an opponent in his or her weight class. I can't count the number of times this has happened to people from my gym. This person will always have an opponent, if it's even reasonably practical for there to be one there for her.

And another one: There will always be a parking place, and a good one. If there's parking meters, there will be some time left on the meter, too--so long as you check. The one time you assume there's time, there won't be...

Edit--I see parking place has been mentioned repeatedly.

Bumbling (skill): You can look incompetent at a skill without incurring any actual penalties. Useful for hustlers, detectives, etc.

There are some stereotypes. Jack-of-all-sciences would go to Spock. Master-of-all-things-medical would go to McCoy. And TV Smart Guys seem to often have exagerratedly unspecialized skills(How in the world does Charley
Eppes know everything as long as it's mathmatical?).

Herpes Immunity would go to Captain Kirk, and MacGyver.

James Bond has a magical ability to hypnotise Evil Villains into not shooting him. How would we write that.

Inspired by the new Sherlock Holmes movie:

No Pictures, Please: No one can get a clear photograph of your face. This may be the result of fortunate accidents ("How'd that bird get in the picture?") or your own trained reflexes in covering up. Note that this is NOT Zeroed ... there may well be records with a great deal of information on you. It's just that none of them will include a mug shot.

I'd call that much more that a perk. It makes it very hard for anyone to find you by looks--critical for certain types. For example, Michael Collins had almost no pictures of him to guide the British searching for him in the movie "Michael Collins," and that let him work with impunity. The same would be the case in many situations..but much harder to arrange in a modern society of picture ID's. (Although if no copy is kept--or it's lost--that's almost as good--the only pic of you is the one in your wallet...)

I don't think it's much more than a perk. It doesn't stop someone from identifying you by other means, or photographing the rest of your body, or memorizing your face and drawing a police sketch. Yes, it closes off one easy avenue, but a halfway-determined searcher will still be able to hunt you down.

Good point -- and addendum -- about modern picture ID's by the way. Although from what I can tell of some folks' driver's license pictures, those aren't the best resemblances anyway. :)

Case in point: my states ID card lasts 6 years and expires in three, and I got it taken with longer hair and a full, fuzzy beard--which I'm growing back now from having much less facial hair. And since it was issued 3 years ago, the cards a bit grungy...

I can't recall it in Sherlock Holmes, but it was one of the schticks that Chao Yun Fat had in God of Gamblers II. I've always wondered since seeing that how it would be possible to achieve these days.

There's Bob, now... - The character will always know without looking who is calling or texting him, provided that caller/texter is someone known to him.

Nose for Trouble (Specify Skill) - The character gets a split-second whiff of potential problems if they are a about to deploy a specified influence skill when it would be all wrong under the circumstances. (I.e. a special-purpose modified Danger Sense).
