Re: List Of your favorite Custom Perks

One I came up with, inspired by the Influence Shticks in Power-Ups 2.

Look of Eagles
By taking a moment to make eye contact with the men under his command, a commander can make a Leadership roll to inspire his troops silently. This doesn't work if you can't make eye contact with your command.

Great to give your side that slight advantage just before an ambush.

Or to doublecheck that your frat brothers aren't about to abandon you to your fate at the hands of yoru school's star safety and his buddies.

Luicid Dreamer- You are in control of your faculties during deaming stages of sleep, allowing a human an extra two or so hours to mull over problems, invent things...etc.

An hour would suffice, IMO. I see this Perk as Reduced Sleep 1 (Accessibility: Only on purely mental stuff you can do in your head anyway, -50%).

Though now I wonder about the interaction with the lucid dreaming skill.

Just rename it "mental back-burner" or something.

South Paw
You have a 'inner style of a style' so to say, a specialized form inside a known style -- like a left-handed Boxing, a hand-based Savate or even a more striking and less grappling Jiujitsu style. Anyway, it's more confusing, even for those who know the base style.

You pay two character points instead of one when purchasing the Style Familiarity perk (MA. 49). However, your different stances and attack/defense modes gives you to ignore a -1 on the final penalty of a Deceptive Attack you makes. So, instead of rolling against -2 to skill to each -1 imposed to your enemies defenses (ergo, -2, -4, -6, or -8, to a maximum of -4 on foe's defenses) you roll against -1, -3, -5, and -7 to give a -1, -2, -3, or -4 active defense penalty on a Deceptive Attack manouver.

This should only work against co-stylists, I think, only someone who EXPECTS you to fight differently than you do. Someone who's studied Jeet Kune Do fights with their weak side forward, nothing about their training would make them more vulnerable to a boxing south paw, for instance.

I think an easier and more realistic way to handle this effect is to say simply: If you have purchased this perk, co-stylists do not get reduced the penalties to defend Deceptive Attacks or Feints against you.

Ummm... nearly all of these perk are not realistic.

Since when do perks have to be realistic? A large percentage of the perks in GURPS are explicitly cinematic.

I'm not writing that. I was just responding to what I thought was a criticism about the realism of a particular perk.
Rereading it, I now think I saw an intent that might not have been there at all.
