Dungeon Fantasy for High-Powered Campaigns

How useful would GURPS Dungeon Fantasy be for running high-powered campaigns that are not predominently in the dungeon, but do feature a lot of combat. I'm looking at running a cinematic fantasy campaign. The feel I'm going for here is sort of along the lines of Black Company (Glen Cooks book, with more healing generally available) and Myth (as in the computer game that was translated into a GURPS book for 3rd edition).

The characters would start off as professional soldiers and progress to be rather powerful veteran heroes on their way to becoming legends.

The character templates in DF1, which start characters off at 250 pts and are pretty well optimized for combat would probably be very useful for a Black Company inspired game.

You would also find useful material in DF2 and DF3, but the first one would probably be the most useful.

Black Company is awesome! With the new DF4: Sages you can have someone like Croaker.

I'm currently playing an online GURPS game that is very High Fantasy/Cinematic game and to get everyone to learn the combat and skills we are starting with Dungeon Fantasy series.

The whole DF series has helped me reach a new direction in my game. I wanted something serious enough to catch the attention of the players but still retain the fun of Wuxia films and some Anime Films.

Croaker early on was mainly the company chronicler who wrote in the annals (?sp) the story of the Black Company as well as medical type who sews people up. His readings from the company's journals are inspirational, but he doesn't do a whole lot with regards to battle. Of course he's pretty decent with a bow, but that only gets shown in one critical moment which I won't detail as it's a major spoiler.

Thanks for the reply.
