Or perhaps just a Tech forum for all things GURPS and Tech related?

A forum for Ultratech, Biotech, Space, Spaceships, and SF/sci-fi games other than Traveller and Transhuman Space? I'd like to hear your case for it. What benefits do you see it having?

Bear in mind (or know, if you hadn't heard) that the mods have already taken a considered decision not to consolidate Traveller and THS into a general "SF Gaming" forum. I think that they want to offer well-labelled support to those settings. So you aren't going to get synergies and cross-fertilisation by this means.

Is the existing GURPS forum getting so many threads that the SF ones you are looking out for are run down to a late page before you see them?

Are SF gaming thread so distinct from GURPS threads that you really want to sequester them in their own ghetto? Or do enough rules questions and general principles of RPG and GURPS in general that you want teh attention of the 'GURPS' forum readers?

Is this going to be the thin end of a wedge, leading to pressure on the mods to set up and moderate a fantasy gaming forum for Fantasy, Magic, Dungeon Fantasy, Banestorm and Thaumatology?

The existing GURPS forum is very, very busy. But is it busy enough for a split? I don't know...

It's popular now. Will it still be popular in six months?

Well, my case would be that it would be convenient for ME...

I'll grant you that a Spaceships only forum would be silly because it is too narrow a subject. But, aside from that, I've seen a lot of tech related questions and comments ("how much damage does such-n-such rifle do with such-n-such hot load", "should 1 inch of steel really be DR 70", "katana are just stylish bastard swords", etc.) spread throughout the GURPS forum, the THS forum, the Traveller forum, the WWII forum, and the all-purpose RPing forum. Granted, in the end they are all GURPS questions and comments. But I wouldn't mind seeing a division between character related subjects (anything to do with stats or points or built in powers) and equipment related subjects. I think it would aid in searches for equipment related posts versus point-build related posts (versus GMing tips posts, for that matter).

I didn't mean to suggest an SF only forum; I chose a dumb title for this thread.

Kromm has been very clear that he does not support further splits of the main GURPS forum. So I'm afraid the answer is no.

The reason being that I'm the GURPS Q&A guy and a GURPS forum moderator and a general admin on these forums. As things stand, I can do all of my GURPS tasks here by performing various admin and mod operations on one forum. I don't have to entertain many "move this thread" requests (which are fussy) or "move this post" requests (which are sometimes impossible without manual cut-and-paste). I can post just one answer to a question and expect everybody to see it. And so on. It would simply make work for me to have to skip around between forums, and the software doesn't support a "merged" forums view which would let me pretend it's one big forum.

So . . . it's entirely selfish, but as people do expect my participation and involvement, and as I'm the only person being paid to tackle GURPS issues on these forums, my selfishness is backed by having the only vote that has the weight of dollars and SJ Games resources.
