Re: GURPS Spaceships, in use!
I just converted the Beowulf, from Traveller, over to GURPS Spaceships rules. To avoid crossposting, I'll just post a link to the thread.

Re: GURPS Spaceships, in use!
A standard space opera interstellar scout craft for PC use, designed with as few superscience options as fits the genre. So stardrive and artificial gravity/compensators but only limited superscience main drive.
Sextant-Class Scout (TL10^) With the frontier expanding with the cube of the size of charted space the demand is ever growing for scouts to explore that frontier. Checking for potential astronomical hazards, plotting new jump routes, charting systems, discovering new resources and potentially habitable planets are all in the job description of the scout. The sextant class scout is a typical deep space exploration vessel. It is capable of independent operation for extended periods and is designed for flexibility. As it is intended for long duration missions every crew member has their own cabin. There is an automed sickbay for treating injuries and two hibernation capsules for emergency use. Biology and a chemistry labs are used for investigating life and qualifying chemical finds. A minifac rounds off the system essentials for making essential repairs far from the nearest shipyard. The main drive uses water for reaction mass as water is obtainable readily from ice asteroids, gas giant moons and many terrestrial planets. The ship has stealth and chameleon skin for blending into the background and when being used in their alternate role as military picket ships. Its streamlining and wings give it a “go anywhere, do anything” role that can be necessary when you are on the only ship for several parsecs. The core crew is pilot, astrogator and engineer with other mission specialists including at least one scientist. It is standing orders that all core roles are capable of being filled by at least two crew members. In addition to the core roles it is usual for there to be someone with ships-gunner skill and another with medical skills. Though these roles can be carried out less well by software and the automed if these skills are not available. The hangar bay carries robotic and manned vehicles for surface exploration work and sometimes a small space vehicle. Space based probes and instrument packages are launched from the turret launcher. Other essentials, extra probes and samples are stored in the small cargo bay. Constructed using a 1000 ton streamlined hull (SM+8) the Sextant class scout is approximately 150ft long. It typically carries a crew of 5, though it can carry twice that number in times of need as well as two people in hibernation. Front 1 Armor (Nanocomposite) dDR 15 2 Sensor Array (Scientific) 3 Hangar Bay (30 ton capacity) 4-5 Habitat (5 Cabins, 2 hibernation capsules, 1 bed automed sickbay, Minifac, Biology Lab, Chemistry lab, 2.5 tons steerage cargo) 6 Fuel Tank (50 tons Water, 6 mps delta-V/tank) 0 Control Room (4 crew stations, C8 computer, comms/sensor 7) Central 1 Armor (Nanocomposite) dDR 15 2-3 Fuel Tank (50 tons Water, 6 mps delta-V/tank) 4! Medium Battery (100 MJ UV Laser, 28cm Probe Launcher, 15 tons Cargo) 5-6! Stardrive (2 Parsec range) 0 Fusion Reactor (2 Power) Rear 1 Armor (Nanocomposite) dDR 15 2 Fusion Torch (1.5 G Water) 3 Engine Room 4-6 Fuel Tank (50 tons Water, 6 mps delta-V/tank) TL 10^, dST/HP 70, Hnd/SR -1/5 (3/6 in atmo), HT 13, Move 1.5G/36mps, LWt. 1000, Load 48.5 tons, SM+8, Occ 10 ASV, dDR15/15/15, Range 2, $98.3M It has a streamlined, winged, stealthed, chameleon hull. It has artificial gravity and gravity compensators. Top air speed is 3100 mph (The only difference in the TL11^ version is 108mps delta-V) |
