List of Car Wars Articles in Pyramid
 

This is a list of Car Wars-related articles previously available from Pyramid.

Most of these entries are from the former Pyramid Online (Volume 2 of Pyramid), which also included some things from the printed magazine (Volume 1). Originally not all of them were free, but SJGames has (at least for now) released all of them for free.

A few come from PDF Pyramid (Volume 3) and are not free. Those link to their Warehouse 23 purchase pages.

Items are listed in reverse chronological order in their sections. Articles specifically for GURPS Autoduel are not included.

The ones I found while poking around included an article of variants (cycles, spikes, linked weapons) and an article showing the new card art in the (then-)upcoming new printing.

I *thought* there was an article about variant cards. I know the Wiseman article mentioned an expansion, but it never materailized.

I so was looking forward to it-body armor & wheelguards would've been very handy.

Please can you tell me which issue had the variant cards? A print issue, or an online issue?

As so much time has passed since they were published , is it possible for someone with the information to just post it on here ?

These items and rules WERE posted on a UK site around 2001 . Unfortunately the webmaster for that site has since died , so the information is now inaccessible . I did have printed copies , but can no longer find them

Not sure what the legal issues would be now , but after 7 years I'd hope they'd be a bit flexible .

No, they still own the copyright and thus posting the article would be illegal.

If you would like to see the 2050 article (ID# 1586) changed to be viewable for free like most SJG-related Pyramid Online articles, email SJG and ask. Two likely addresses:

Spinal Mounting was in ADQ 10-4, which is not in the Pyramid archives. You can purchase PDFs of all of the ADQs from e23.

The response was that it would not be made free because it's (effectively) the only one that isn't free and thus incentive to buy a subscription. I replied that the lack of Car Wars articles since 2003 meant it was unlikely that anyone here would purchase a subscription for the one article, no matter how useful the contents, but that was no help.

I still recommend people email pyramid@sjgames.com and ask for it to be changed. I don't think a forum thread would be as effective (we don't know if the person who would make that decision even reads the forums) but you're welcome to start one. Maybe the new Pyramid forum?

It's IP (Intellectual Property) so I think they have the right to keep it subscriber only... I also agree that no one is going to subscribe to Pyramid for Car Wars "stuff" if that's all there is...

Would anyone be interested in buying a PDF of that article only? Perhaps requesting that that article hit e23 for 99 cents would be effective?

FWIW, I personally wouldn't, as I already have copies of that article from being a Pyramid subscriber.

Has anyone else emailed them and asked? Multiple voices are more convincing. (Plus you wouldn't have had to ask what the response was if you had asked for yourself.)

So how does someone buy an article or issue from the second volume of Pyramid ?

I can find the PDF versions of the original 30-issue Volume 1, and the issues from Volume 3. But nothing for sale from Volume 2.

I.E. if I want to buy "Uncle Albert's 2050 Catalog Supplement", how do I ?

Go to SJG's e23 website for the PDFs. Search for "Car Wars". The volumes have 4 issues each, and I was able to quickly find listings for ADQ 2/1, 2/2, 2/3 and 2/4.

Sure was worth it, huh? I bought every single ADQ from there, and really enjoyed reading through them.
I'm sure that other stuff will show up over time, like the 2e Compendium (while I do have it, I bought it on PDF as well - easier to transport and search).

Although I do have Uncle Als', I don't consider it all that useful (whoooo, hope I'm not starting a war with this statement), but am sure it'll eventually show up. I've read the SJG comments on creating high-quality PDFs, but - quite frankly - I don't see the big effort...

MJBurrage was talking about an article from Pyramid Online, not the ADQs. There's a thread for this discussion in the Pyramid forum.

Summary: In the future they may reissue articles from Pyramid Online in PDF Pyramid form. ("Pyramid Vault" issues.) Until then (or unless something else changes) you can't get that one article. :(

Is there a complete list of Pyramid articles about Car Wars ?

I.E. all the articles that are not available for free.

For example:
Pyramid #1 (May/June 1993) had:

Not here. This list is everything that was part of Pyramid Online, free or not. Only some of the Print Pyramid articles were brought in, mostly the Q&As.

These articles include Uncle Albert's 2050 Catalog Update, a document previously available only to subscribers of Pyramid. A few of the original graphics are missing from the Uncle Albert's 2048 Catalog article ("Sonic Cannon").

The AADA News Online Archive only has the columns from Pyramid Issues 10 to 30. One of the first nine issues of Pyramid had a great 3-D arena design called the Boom Tube.

I am glad to know the links in the Sticky Post are still functional. I thought they became invalid when the Pyramid Archive was removed from the Internet, the reason I reprinted my own Pyramid Car Wars Article page.

Has someone compiled a list of the Autoduel articles that are more GURPS than Car Wars? '86 - '90 really seems to be the Golden Age for Car Wars: tons of GURPS releases included a 'GURPS Autoduel' cross-over notes, like 3rd Edition Basic Book's solo adventure where Dai could be TL8 Dreg carrying a .22 pistol instead of a fantasy thief with a dagger...

A list of Autoduel-centric articles would be great - even for straight CW players looking for more background I think.

There appear to be a number of discrepancies/changes/mistakes (?) in the online text to the original magazines and/or original Pyramid online Archive ( from 2001-2004 ? ). Text & rules on High Torque Motors for example . Can these be possibly highlighted or changed if incorrect - or marked "Improved" etc if new rules apply to avoid more confusion on what are currently correct rules please .

Print Pyramid ran from 1993-1998. If there are errors between the print version and the Pyramid Online version please post them and I can verify and note them. (All of the online articles that came from Print Pyramid have their source issue listed at the top of the article.)


From discussion in another thread we found that Racer wasn't using the final version of the 2051 Catalog Update article, so nothing needs to be noted there.

I can look for my paper copies.. IIRC, HTMs were $100 or maybe $200 per wheel, double accel up and half max speed. The idea was to make electrics competitive with gas in the arena again-- acceleration is king there.

If anyone was wondering, all three Uncle Albert's Catalog Updates published in Pyramid Vol. 2 have been made available at no cost. The 2050 Catalog Update was previously a pay-per-view article.
