The Fantasy Trip Lite

Is there a Lite version of the Fantasy Trip available?

I figure the free Melee and the talents and spells list available at https://thefantasytrip.game/resources/ is lite enough, but would need some writeup on talent usage and spells.

Would an abbreviated talents and spell list be enough?

I believe Melee is free but Wizard is not.

Have you considered Dark City Games?

Thanks. I'll check those two out. Looks to fit the bill, so no official TFT Lite from SJ Games then.

Melee and Wizard is "official" TFT lite

As RPG's go, TFT is as light as they come, as it is.

Dark City Games does a good job of stripping it down further and it functions well. Also, their games are cool and it is fun to support them, really nice guys.

You might also try Heroes & Other Worlds, although they both (DCG & HOW) depart from Melee in that there is no facing, and you can react defensively to an attack and lose your next turn.

I agree that TFT is as lite as it comes. I'm just trying to find what free summary I can get people started with to entice them to buy the paid versions (e.g. Wizard, etc.).

For what it is worth, my group, only two of who had played any RPG (the other game), I had them over 6 of us one night. I guided them through a quick character gen and i taped the Wizard board to the dining room table, with various obstacles. We had a really good time just battling one another around that board, usually in teams, for several hours. It was great. From there I managed to get them into the beginning of a campaign. Just those two games alone are full-fledged Table top fun. And after a few games, they start to really see the variation in options and tactics. There's a lot of unseen depth in SJ's combat vision.

Honestly, you can get just Melee and just Wizard and just Death Test, and make up everything else as you go along. That's all any of us had in the earliest years, and in a lot of ways those were the most fun years of all.

Oh, and I believe the Pocket Box bundle of Melee and Wizard together in one package is still available at Warehouse 23. That way you get two hex-maps and a bunch of character and beastie counters all at once.
