Death Test Attributes

I've searched for a thread that has updated Death Test attributes to TFT standards. Many fighter stats don't have an IQ stat. As a side note, I've been using the PDF version of Death Test and finally open the hard copy and noticed it was missing pages 7-18. Anyone else have this problem?

I didn't have the problem of missing pages.

The reason that the IQs are missing is that when the game first came out, it was made to play as a stand alone fighting system. Most arena type battles or various scenarios with terrain or the micro-games like Death Test. It wasn't originally set up as a full RPG.

The fighting book was Melee or Advanced Melee. The magic battle book was Wizard or Advanced Wizard. Later, in the Labyrinth was written to tie it all together as an RPG. That is Classic TFT.

When it was re-released back in 2018, all three wrapped up into the new In The Labyrinth which is referred to as Legacy TFT.

Some of the Fighters have a stated IQ, most don't. Back in the day I had Advance Melee & Wizard and ITL, what is ironic my new Melee was part of the TFT Kickstarter but I never checked it page by page until now.

If there's no listed IQ, assume IQ 8, and talents for the weapons carried.

Yes, I'm sure I read that somewhere.

Note that the fighter cards in Legacy are IQ 10 (and hence generally 34 point characters) to deal with Illusions and control person spells.

I look at my Legacy copy of DT and on the last page, the fighter table states, "Assume a fighter is human and has IQ 8 unless..."

Where do you see that the IQ is now 10?

Not Death Test, but the fighter cards as noted:

This is a bit quirky but not important - if you aren't told an IQ score in this context you can safely assume it is irrelevant.

However, a separate issue I have with the LE version of DT2 is that there are foes who have stat blocks that are basically impossible to achieve in the LE system. I'm thinking of the pair of orcs with stat totals over 40 (but there might be others).

These orcs have random ST and IQ... The net is they can have anywhere from 35 to 51 attribute points. Although they tend to hit the low end of that range. Despite this, they have fixed weapons, so they don't seem to take advantage of their boosted stats. I think of it as these orcs took some ST or IQ boosting potions just before you entered.

Thanks for all the input, I was hoping had already done what I have to do (add TFT into DT). As a side note, SJG is sending me a new DT1 rules hard copy.

Received my new (free0 copy of death Test in the mail today. Thanks SJG! Unlike another game company whose starter box came with 80 pawns (stand-up counters with bases), 24 pawns were misprinted, and I submitted a trouble record via the company's website. After several days of no response, I returned all my purchases of the game (via Amazon.com). Once again thanks SJG.
