Besides, Essential Stone is more likely a silicate than an oxide.

My own headcanon was that Essential Stone has properties like those of diamond, but is resistant to burning; Essential Air is 100% oxygen; Essential Water is just water, but with enhanced solvation properties; Essential Wine is straight ethanol. Though historically any distilled liquor would count as "essential"; that's why it's called "spirits."

I would expect it to be opaque and I'd be dubious about it having cleavage planes -- it's stone, not gemstone.

I'll certainly stipulate the opacity. I had in mind density and hardness, in particular.
