Collision Question

(I looked through the Errata and searched for 6e collisions, didn't find the answer. Also viewed some of the SJG YouTube videos, didn't see the situation arise.]

P15 - "The moment a car touches a heavy obstacle or wall, a collision has occurred."

1. If a car is < 1 car length away from a wall or heavy obstacle, does it collide when slid forward on the Turning Key, or does a collision occur after a turn is made (which could potentially prevent the collision)?

2. Assuming a collision is checked for after a turn, the car may still end up overlapping the wall or heavy obstacle at the end of its regular movement point, but P15 - "The moment a car touches a heavy obstacle, the car must stop moving. How is this done in this case? (Positioning the car in its normal final spot, then moving straight backwards until just touching a wall or heavy obstacle, and in the case of a wall, then repositioning per P16 Pushing Walls??)

Re: Collision Question

1. It collides when slid forward on the turning key.

2. The turning procedure is not just a method of determining the car's position at the end of the movement point. The car and base must be physically moved through the entire procedure, and a collision can occur at any point during the procedure when and if the car's base touches something it wasn't touching at the beginning of the procedure. The instant the car's base touches a wall it wasn't touching at the beginning of the movement point, the car has collided with the wall.

Re: Collision Question

Heatdeath has got it right. This is why when I am teaching the game, I correct people when they try to pick the car up and put it at its final position. The car must actually do the full movement, on the table, and not encounter obstacles in the process.

Re: Collision Question

You're not allowed to make the vroom-vroom noises if you're just transplanting the car from one end of the maneuver to the other (like some OTHER games). It's no fun that way!
