Gurps newbie here.
So I have been a long time gamer, since the 80's but Gurps is one game I missed out on. I have recently been on a spending spree to make up for that but I have a question about old versions vs new I am mainly trying to get 4th ed. books but I can't pass up some of the stting books which I gather from these forums are easy to adapt. My question, this time, is about Infinite Worlds which says it replaces Timetravel and Alternate Earths 1&2. However in skimming through the book I was referenced to the older versions. How much goodness am I missing by not having these 3 books?
Thanks for reading this. |
Re: Gurps newbie here.
I don't see much need for Time Travel. However, I think very highly of Alternate Earths and especially of Alternate Earths 2, both of which I have kept on my shelves. I've run two different campaigns based on them: a past campaign in the Chinese-dominated world of AE2 and my current campaign Fronteira on a future Mars colonized by several nations of Shikaku-Mon in AE1. You'll have to fill out a lot of details to use any of the timelines in a campaign, but I feel they provide a great springboard.

Re: Gurps newbie here.
There is material in Time Travel that was not carried forwards into Infinite Worlds, but it's not very significant. Alternate Earths 1 & 2 present far more detail than Infinite Worlds about some interesting worlds, and are well worth having.
Oh, and welcome to GURPS! |
Re: Gurps newbie here.
As mentioned above, but I would just add that if you actually want to run time travel games then that will obviously change the potential value! If that's not immediately on your radar, then I'd say certainly the AE are of more value.
I'm currently setting up a time travel game, so I even went so far as to track down an original (new, as it happens) copy of Time Travel Adventures as it's long out of print and not available in PDF for purchase. Wasn't cheap, but is very good! IW doesn't need it, but I'm not running within the IW world. |
Re: Gurps newbie here.
Thanks for the info folks.
Are there any other earlier edition books that have a 4th ed. treatment that I should be looking at? I think I'm gonna add Time travel and the Alternate earths to ny wishlist. Thanks again. |
Re: Gurps newbie here.
