Where should it be? (Is it my ancient browser that cannot find it?)

OH, interesting. I click on GURPS Classic: Aliens, and there's the big Already Purchased, nice and visible under its name.

So it's books-by-other-publishers (Amarillo Design Bureau in that case) that aren't working...? Ah, but no.

Okay, I am clicking from my "Orders" files on the Shopify site:

https://sjg-warehouse-23.myshopify.c...31887602483303 gets a 404 when I attempt to check its page.

https://sjg-warehouse-23.myshopify.c...31887593177191 is not marked as owned.
https://sjg-warehouse-23.myshopify.c...31887512666215 not marked.
GURPS Supporting Cast: Age of Sail Pirate Crew: not marked.
GURPS Fourth Edition Combat Cards not marked
GURPS Power-Ups 3: Talents not marked

GURPS Space 4e: Marked owned.

...in that one, the commonality is that the ones with color covers are properly marked. All the others don't have fancy color covers.

But in the very next order, none of GURPS Classic Space Atlas 1-3, nor GURPS Supers (4e), are marked as owned, and they all have fancy covers.

Checking another order, and the "not-SJG" streak is broken:
https://sjg-warehouse-23.myshopify.c...31885249577063 is marked as owned.
Freebie https://sjg-warehouse-23.myshopify.c...31887593832551 is marked as owned.
Spell Charts: marked as owned.
Skill Categories: marked as owned.

https://sjg-warehouse-23.myshopify.c...31887444574311 has a 404.

...So it's kind of random for me. I'm not going to bombard you with the rest of the things that I'm clicking from my "your orders" lists that... aren't showing up as owned, but there's definitely more.

RANDOM BUG, WOOHOO! •hands over the booze•

This is helpful! Looks like the code I did works.... 1/2 the time! I'll have to dig more into each item and each order to see what is actually going on. Thanks again for digging through

We ported orders over on a specific date, so if this was placed after that date it most likely won't be there until we do another port.

I tried to look at the new Shopify Store and it loads so slowly (on a 80.97 Mbs connection) that it is unreal. What was wrong with the old store? To paraphrase an old saying 'if it isn't broke don't dork with it.'

The new store loads essentially instantly for me:

Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:

That's from Sydney, Australia on a 108mbps connection, though shopify obviously have distributed points of presence so it's not all routing back to the US.

I just rechecked and it is now loading properly. No idea why it was so slow previously.

Created the new account

Address were imported OK.

Previous purchases : partial import.
Lots of stuff missing, including orders, not only comp.

Exemples (not the full list ! ) :

After the end :
2 books, 3 pyramid : I own the 5 books, none of them are flagged as owned.

Action 1-5 : I own the 5 books, only Action 3 show as already purchased.

One nasty usability issue :

At log in, after entering e-mail, [tab] select Forget the password? instead of the password field.

This screw up with keyboard input, or with password managers like Keypass.

My test order processed without issue. It took two tries to get my shopify account to wake up, but that's life.

Three orders in my WH23 history do not appear in my Shopify history. These orders (1 a free item, 2 purchases, no comps) occurred in summer 2022 -- assuming they will eventually get synched up.

Reviewing order history was annoying, with (at the time I did it) no sortability or filtering. I hope that's fixed.

Product search was comical. I searched "Pocket Box" and got one hit. Other unrelated searches revealed a dozen Pocket Box products around.

Anyway. I hope some of that was helpful.

Been a bit nervous about starting up the cross over account, are there still problems with missing downloads etc? If I do open the new account on the new store front, will I still have access to my downloads at the old location until everything is sorted out?

So far I've taken a wait and see approach before doing the new store front. Giving SJG time to sort out the bugs etc.

Re: New Shopify Store!

Constructive (I hope) feedback: I'm still seeing missing orders and missing downloads in my account on the new site.

My orders list only includes orders from 2013 or before, with "E23-" prefixes (though not all of those orders); all of my "R"-prefixed orders from 2014 on are missing, along with their downloads.

Also, a minor nit: for my orders that do show up, the order date is often a day off from the date shown for that order on the old Warehouse 23 site. Fr'instance, the old site shows that I placed order E23-131006-218568 on 2013-10-05, but the new site shows that order with Oct 6, 2013 (one day later) as the date. Possibly a time-zone issue with the import?

Re: New Shopify Store!

I just found out about the new store and it seems a huge fraction of my digital content is missing from my downloads page. Hard to say how much. Among other things, while I own the entire GURPS Dungeon Fantasy line, only one entry from that line is visible on my downloads page.

I also notice that if I click "GURPS" and sort by "New -> Old", I don't see any of the items marked "new" in the old store, items which AFAIK are the actual newest items. Instead I see new-ish but slightly older items. Even weirder, "Old -> New" appears to sort alphabetically.

I've got access to everything on warehouse23.com. I'd advise setting up your matching account sooner rather than later, in order to be able to compare the imported records to the ones on warehouse23, personally.

I just noticed that the new store forces a download of a preview file. ...Having to remember to go throw away things in my download folder is very sad for me. Is there any way for it to just *display* preview files without me having to download them? (Downloading previews will be especially onerous if I want to look at something on my phone.)

Thanks Beth for the advice. Think I'll have to do so this next weekend. I'd like to have seen an update from Phil on how this is going. Things to look out for etc, would be nice.

Already mentioned this to info@warehouse23.com. Re-posting here to try to make sure I'm the only poor sod who didn't get what they were expecting when I bought something.

I purchased GURPS Character Assistant thru the shopify store, expecting it (as per the description) to be GCA 5 but ended up with GCA 4 , version b4.0.423.

Judging from the copyright date on the program code, the version I got is a little out of date (2012).

Update:
Customer support jumped on this like a starving poodle setting on a pork chop. I was able to re-download the file, and got GCA 5.0.189.

I'm glad they fixed you up. However, GCA 5.0.199 is newest, having been released September 8th, so I hope that's the version they have up for folks now. (Or does it back-fill purchases to the SJGames site so you can download from there?).

Re: New Shopify Store!

For myself, I had to do a password reset because it didn't let me in using the password I had saved, but I assume that's my fault. (I created the account there and looked around a bit some time back, but didn't really try to do much until today, when I went to see if I had GCA in my list so I could try to download it and see what version it was. That failed, because it's not listed for me.)

Typing anything into the Shopify store is a nightmare. Slow, unresponsive, and constantly losing characters. Even backspacing is painful. (I don't recall that being my experience with Shopify before, so maybe that's just the testing site.)

Typing in Search is super annoying, for the above reasons, and because it searches based on the failed typing I was in the middle of when it refreshes the page.

I looked at my Orders page, and ugh, that's annoying (and I only have 3 pages to wade through).

My Downloads page only has 19 items listed. Nothing from my Warehouse 23 downloads that is marked COMP is included there, but my Warehouse 23 non-COMP downloads only lists 18 items. The odd one out is "The Fantasy Trip 2019 Postcard Contest (SJG37-5581)" which I seem to recall owning, but can't find in my SJGames download page at all.

So.... I guess that's my experience.

Better then me. My Downloads page says "Getting your digital items . . ." and sits there, doing nothing. I've left it sitting for a couple of hours and nothing has come up.

Hi! Two issues:
1. There is no wishlist in the new store. I have a long list of "to buy" in the old store.
2. All the Kickstarters are missing in my orders/downloads list (Pyramid 4; GURPS PDFs challenges).

Thanks!

Just a quick message to say:

a) the new webstore looks nice and very functional. I like it.

b) a little concerned that my downloadable files aren’t transferred over and I need to register again with a new account. Please could my files/account be transferred over?

You have to create a new account *using the email address from the old one*, so they can do the transfer. (In theory, you could try using your login/PW from your WH23 account, but this did not work for me (or others), and the "create a new account with the same email" did.)

Re: New Shopify Store!

Speaking of weird stuff:

On ShopifyWH23, when I search pyramid #4/, I only get Pyramid #4/3: Sci-Fi/Tech (and a bunch of other Pyramids with 4 in them), while on WH23 classic, I get Pyramids 4/1, 4/2, and 4/3 -- so FYI, they may not have all transferred over smoothly?

The Shopify store is still being worked on. New titles are not added automatically to the new site. There are still tasks to complete. Right now, we're trying to test the site's ability to handle sales.

Re: New Shopify Store!

I saw another user mentioned this already, but I'll add a "me, too" as well. My Wishlist is absent from the Shopify store. It's a really nice feature that I'd personally like to see eventually ported over.

Also, when I go to the Shopify store, some of the GURPS products load and others don't. For products that load, they show the cover of the file/book and I'm able to click on them to proceed to their description page to buy. For the products that don't load, there is a grey box instead of the file/book cover and I am not able to click on the grey box to proceed to their description page.

Overall, I like the look of the new site. Congrats!

I really don't like that 1/4 of my screen on my phone is taken up with the "floating" search bar, and the rest only shows a few products because they're listed one per line with a ton of whitespace. It makes shopping on mobile, my primary method, very unfriendly.
It's also missing the ability to sort by newest product first, which is the only way I use warehouse 23 (on the old store, it's hidden under the "search" button at the bottom of the page, but once I found it, I always use it)

After poking a bit, the number of orders on my "orders" page looks approximately correct (45 pages of orders!), it's just that tons of stuff is missing from the "downloads" page. As a webdeveloper myself I wonder if the database state is fine but the sheer number of files I own broke the UI.

Yeah, I have 353 download entries in the old W23 site, and about 90 or so in the new one.

74 Orders on old, 10 pages of about 7 orders each on new.

Obviously something is not working fully. :)

The different sites also don't match up on whether I've purchased an item.

Old shows I've bought GURPS Magical Styles: Dungeon Magic. New one doesn't, even when I follow the link in the order that I bought it in to get to the page.

Other items do match up, but not all.

Remember this is just a test for now and they have explicitly said several rimes that not everything is working. I also suspect that the transfer program is a background program that checks account details before copying the data (to insure your privacy and security) and likely runs in off peak hours.

Yes, the new site is not ready. Right now, we're still testing the features and still importing customer date from the old store. This is a slow process and we will make an announcement when everything is complete.

Uh, Warehouse23 appears to have still had a very outdated email address on my account (even though I'm pretty sure I get "thank you for your order" and "one of your items has updated" emails at my current email address).

That appears to mean that the new Spotify account can't connect to the old WH23 account.

Hello,
I hope this feedback helps. When I look at my warehouse23 account, I now have a whole bunch of past purchases that incorrectly say "balance due", some going back more than a decade. None of the digital items that I have checked on these past purchases show up in the new shopify store. I can still correctly access all of the digital files I tried to from the warehouse23 front end, even the ones that are mismarked "balance due".

Purchases on the new store will only be on the new store. We are working on getting everyones purchase from the old store ported over (as well as files that were from Kickstarters) before we close down the old store. We want to make sure everyone has access to the entirety of their library before making the change permanent.

I'm in the same boat with a different assortment of GURPS stuff (including some DF titles) worth over $30 but being told the discount code doesn't work. Maybe DF doesn't work even though it comes up under GURPS searches?

SHIPPING OPTIONS!

I just popped into Warehouse 23 to order the Illuminati Dice Tray and saw that the store was closed for inventory, so I went to the new store and started to order it from there. This is a single $18.00 item.

The shipping options on the Spotify store start at $13.71 for USPS Priority Mail and and end up at $147.79 for FedEx First Overnight(R), It's nice to have 9 different options but having the cheapest shipping rate at $13.71 is bit crazy.

I went back to Warehouse 23 and placed my order there. FedEx Smart Post was only $9.91!

Please do something to offer cheaper shipping options on your new store.

Thanks!

Can you send an email to help@sjgames.com with any messages it sent you?

I see your account in the system, so trying figure out the disconnect here.

The old store tells me if I try to purchase an item that I already own. When the port is complete, I expect the new store will notify me of the same thing sometime before the checkout phase of a purchase. Is this a feature that should be present? If so, would you like feedback on whether or not it works?

The old Warehouse 23 new products page would show non-SJGames products, how do I find them now?

I must say that I strongly object against ending the old Warehouse 23 store before making sure that all the purchases I've made are available for download in the new store.

Looks like more than half of the products I've purchased are not available for me to download at this time.

Good job, 0/5

Edit: I just noticed that I can still access the old store for the purpose of downloading my goodies from there, thank you!

Re: New Shopify Store!

My 2˘ (as a professional ecommerce web developer, and inaugural user of W23, FWIW)

The way I've used W23 in the past is to go to the GURPS search page, which was sorted newest-to-oldest by default, and check for anything "new."

On the new Shopify site, the GURPS page has all the fluff at the top—which is fine for new customers, but mostly useless for recurring ones—with the part that I need way "below the fold," requiring a great deal of scrolling.

There's definitely a good point to be made for having everything on the same page, from a structural & SEO standpoint. I think the easiest solution would be to add a TOC, or anchor-link to the search part, so I only have to click once to drop down to the bit that I need. Otherwise (or additionally?) I'd be thinking about separating them into separate pages, so the search part can be seen more directly.

Also, unrelated:
It's been throwing me off because the latest addition to the old W23 site is the Vehicles: Triremes book, but I don't see that on the Shopify site at all, and the books appear in a different order—I'm guessing the added-dates aren't matching the old site (for more-or-less obvious reasons)? Did Vehicles get missed?

Attempt to register on new site with old email gets me an activation link in the mail that then gives:

500 Internal Server Error

However I am then able to login to the site.

We are currently working on getting all of the 3rd party items correctly tagged so we can have a drop down menu for companies much like the old site.

Big fail from the start for me. Search needs to have a time based sort, new to old and old to new, not just sort by price or 'Relevance'. That's before I've even set up an account to log in.

Some more thoughts about the new store in no particular order:

- Who thinks that it's an acceptable solution in 2023 to have no search for bought digital items in the download section?

- In the downloads section, why do I have to first click an item, and then be forced to scroll through all the items I bought with that one purchase to actually find the download link for the item I've already clicked?

- How do I browse browse for, say, GURPS pdf supplements? I really can't figure this one out...

- How do I exclude physical items from search results?

Re: New Shopify Store!

Unfortunately the new shop is quite a nightmare when it comes to useability.

No option to sort or search in the orders page or the 'Your Digital Library' page which lists only a small fraction of the items I had bought. The indicator on an item's shop page if it has already been bought is quite random even with items that do show up in the library or orders pages.

I have already sent an email regarding missing orders but hands down the old shop was better by orders of magnitude.

ADDENDUM: Regarding the option to display only digital products I have to concur that if I have to dig through a mountain of stuff until I find what I'm looking for chances are I won't be doing that too often if at all.

So

I've created a new account for the shopify store. Two observations/questions.

1) Will there be a way to search your previous digital orders like in the old Warehouse 23? The shopify stores says that my digital orders are undergoing "transferance" to shopify. I hope that includes the ability to search for the download when I need to print something out.

2) Wish lists. I don't see my wish lists at the new store. Are they going to be transferred over or do I need to do them manually? Will there even be an option to create wish lists?

OK.
  • Search function does not allow basic sorting of results other than by price, although the categories from the headers do have more sorting options.
  • No way to separate digital from physical products.
  • Download system is awful. Find link without search/sort, click link, new page, find link without search AGAIN, click link, download.
  • 900+ downloads missing from my account at present.

My Conclusion: Lacks basic functionality for finding products of interest. Lacks easy ability to access purchases already made. As yet unfit for purpose as a sales platform. Definitely not ready to replace the old site.

(I recently downloaded everything from the original store for backup, got 1029 files. A very quick and dirty count gave me only 115 files on the new downloads page.)

Re: New Shopify Store!

The vertical division of the GURPS catalog page into "GURPS rulebooks", "Pyramid", and "all GURPS resources" subsections is pretty ugly.

More annoyingly, if I click the pagination link to see the second page of "all GURPS resources" results, it (a) reloads the whole page, and (b) then makes me scroll down past the menu, the logo, the tagline banner, the intro text, the "GURPS rulebooks" section, the "Powered by GURPS" banner, the Dungeon Fantasy section, and the "Pyramid" sections again for each page.

This is bad UI design. Put the things the customer is interested at the top of the catalog page, instead of making them work to find those things on a cluttered result page. And once I've clicked into one of the three product subsections, I've let you know what I'm interested in, so just show me results from that subsection.

The new shop is still not a decent or even usable substitute to the old one.
  • The bug quoted below is still unfixed.

This screw up with keyboard input, or with password managers like Keypass.

  • You cannot search for new products. (Edit : you can, sort off - see below).

  • You cannot easily see if you have already purchased an item.

  • Previous purchase Download list is incomplete (and this is not limited to recent purchases, despite the message saying so) - this include items that do appear in the order list.

  • order list isn't sorted nor searchable nor exportable, making finding something in 13 pages of orders near-impossible (especially since you have to manually open most of them to see what was ordered). No idea if it is complete either.

  • Some link in the order list resolve to a 404 page (Old Pyramid Webzine Subscription (Defunct))

  • I suppose the catalog would look nice on a phone or small tablet. On a decently sized monitor, it is just bad. To be polite.

You need to scroll several sections then scroll even more to finally see 6 books at a time.
And when you switch to the next page, you have to scroll down again and again ...

  • What is the point of having horizontal sliders in the Pyramid header that show about a dozen covers in no specific order (and always the same) ?

  • Once you finally scrolled down to the actual catalog, there finally is a small "featured" button that hide the capacity to sort for "new > old" or A>Z
    Except it doesn't work ,
"new > old" have older books appearing out of order.
And not just classic books in the primary list... take for example the "after the end" collection, sort "new > old", and you have the pyramid magazines in order 90, 88, 119 .. I am pretty sure the 119 came after the 2 others :)

Or just go to the Pyramid catalog and sort New>Old ...

Sorting A to Z will put Dungeon Fantasy 10 to 19 above 01-20-..-09. (same with Pyramids issues, ... )
Not unexpected but it could easily be fixed to have an usable ordered list instead of this mess.

  • Some books appear for some reasons in categories, like one of the Sorcery spells book in the Dungeon Fantasy category, but not the other spells books nor the primary sorcery book that you need to use these spell books...) ?

  • The "new Release" Tab, with category "Roles Playing Games" selected, show 7 supplement that I believe aren't the latest released.

  • Less of an issue but a suggestion : preventing the purchasing of multiples identical PDF by setting the max quantity to 1 for PDF would be nice. I know that on other shopify e-commerce, I sometime added twice the same item and didn't notice until too late.

The post above sound overly negative and it wasn't my intent but honestly I was looking for a single nice thing to say, and besides "It probably look good and work better than e23 on devices I don't personnaly use for shopping"... I have nothing.

Edit : I actually purchased a few free items, and the process was fast and worked well. So the new web store do actually work, assuming you manage to find what you want to purchase.
The email with the download links worked fine too.

Honestly, until everything is migrated over to the new download spot of the new website, I've stopped any purchases. I just refuse to reward this, it has not been a good migration over the past six months. Folks still don't have their pdfs moved over there completely months later.

The old store doesn't accept order any more ...but if you search for an item on google or another search engine and go to the book page on the old w23, you can still add it to the crate, download a preview, ... until you attempt checkout, at which point you get an unhelpful screen :

My default search (I even bookmarked it) on the old W23 website was "new digital-only GURPS from SJ Games."

Are the search tools being updated? Because my brief puttering around hasn't found a way to replicate that.

Re: New Shopify Store!

There's a good rule of thumb I use when replacing something important: Make sure that the replacement can do everything necessary as well as what I was replacing.

Sadly, so far the new site has failed to do anything at all that I used/did on the old site better than what it's supposed to be replacing. (Admittedly I haven't tried actually purchasing anything, since there haven't been any GURPS releases for months, but that's another issue.) This has been an ongoing project for over six months since it was announced on this forum, and still hasn't managed to migrate user downloads and apparently very little of the criticism of the basic functions made since the first announcement in this thread has been considered worth addressing (ie Search results and page layout, downloads accessibility and sorting etc...)

Being blunt, unless there's some additional reason behind the scenes customers don't know about that absolutely required the old site to be shut down for purchases, the new store should be scrapped or taken down until it can be brought up to the minimum standards set by the previous version.

Right now the new store is a total and abject failure from the point of view of at least one customer who's been buying from SJGames since it was e23.

Re: New Shopify Store!

I created an account on the new store a while back during testing, so it's been linked to my old one / live for many months.

I have 63 downloads available on the old site and 46 downloads available on the new site.

I understand transfers are still in progress, and that's cool. I'll check back in a few weeks. I imagine the amount of data across all account is huge!

However:
  • The new site is a bit faster, snappier, which is nice.
  • On a 1920x1200 screen (pretty standard size range) I have to scroll down about 4 pages worth of screen before I can see products to buy in the list - this isn't good.
  • The thumbnails and title text is too large, meaning I only get to see 2 rows of items to buy per screen and the rows are only 3 items across meaning I can only see 6 at a time.
  • If you just click on GURPS, for example, the titles are not in alphabetical order by default - you get "Featured" and if you change it and navigate away from the page and come back, it goes back to Featured instead of how I set it (alphabetical, for example) and this is very annoying and makes it harder to find what I want particularly when combined with so few items being displayed on the screen at once - it's a poor UI experience.
  • I can't set the number of items per page.
  • When I click to the next page, I have to scroll down the aforementioned 4 pages to get to the content again - combined with only being able to see 18 items over 3 pages at a time, this increases click/scroll, makes it harder to keep a place, and makes it harder and takes longer to find content which *will* lead to reduced sales.
  • When clicking to each next page of 18 titles, there's no way to jump ahead multiple pages - if you sort alphabetically, you can often make a reasoned guess as to how far you need to jump to get to where you want to go, but that's not possible here.
  • If I go to new releases (instead of GURPS) there is a "show" option to set numbers of items per page, but it's almost hidden up the top left without anything to draw attention to it, away from the selector for next page, and it scrolls off the top of the page as soon as you start scrolling down so it's hard to find, notice, and isn't consistent across content baselines.
  • Looking at Munchkin, I have to scroll past 8 categories to get to "all" and can only see 2 per page, so that's about 4 pages to find that "all" is available at the bottom.
  • Munchkin gives you 4.5 items per line - the 5th one is vertically cut in half except when you click to move to the right to see the other items then the left hand one "1st one listed at that time" is the one cut in half.
  • Munchkin has no left hand side category selector/refiner.
  • Ogre is like the GURPS page but it has the "Show" option at the top of the page (which as mentioned has problems but at least it's there) and doesn't have 3 pages of scrolling to start getting to the content which is an improvement.
  • Car Wars is like the Munchkin page with all its drawbacks and missing bits, but with the added pain of being like the GURPS page and having to scroll down a couple of pages before you can get to content and it is missing the "Show" option.
  • The Fantasy Trip is like the Car Wars page.
  • The Games page has the 4.5 items per line issue and lack of "Show" at the top to choose how many items per page you get.
  • When doing a global search, such as "GURPS" the only option you get for filtering results are relevance and price high/low - there's no "new" or "old", and then Product Type or Brand with no options for Digital or Physical and so on, making the global search less granular than it should be.

I haven't even tried on a mobile device yet, with less screen real estate and a portrait orientation.

I had thought there were many good things being addressed based on responses to feedback over the months, but I'm left very disappointed with the state of it at "launch", particularly given it's been in soft launch for so long and the old site is disabled except (thankfully) for downloading content we own.

This needs to be significantly improved, and quickly, and with actually listening to and actioning user feedback (even if that action is to respond and explain why it won't be done, or why it will be changed in a different way - not all feedback will be right, of course).

True !

Given w23 code base age, the http problem and likely others behind the scene troubles, the move to a more modern solution is probably necessary.
But it would be good if it was also usable.

And it us not only us old fossils that complain.

I ran a couple oneshot Gurps game at my new gaming place in January, one of my players wanted to buy GURPS after these, and at yesterday game he told me he tried w23 before switching to drivethru for Gurps Lite. His description of the search experience mirrored the one from various poster above.
For physical books, he will likely use Amazon to avoid shipping costs, but for the PDFs, w23 should be the best choice....
