Siege engine and related equipment descriptions?

Where are some good references for details about various siege equipment?

ITL gives a cursory mentioned to scorpions, arbelests, catapults, battering rams, and siege towers but is lacking any details around these items so far as how they are operated and fit into game play. ITL does describe which talents are required and how the talents relate to these items but the items themselves seem to be lacking the info needed for game play.

see Death Test 2, look at #170 and #195 for details about an Arbalest

That is the only one I am aware of.

Thanks. Same here. I had already seen those.

I guess that a catapult or trebuchet does damage proportional to the weight of the items being thrown as ammo.

A battering ram would depend upon its size/weight and the speed at which it can hit based upon the number and strength of those pushing it.

How long does it take to reload and fire? The arbalest was described but some larger ones could be made.

The large shields that are moved rolled in front of troop could be made in a variety of ways.

Dropping a large stone from a great height (ITL 133) has exactly the same result as lobbing that stone up to that height from a trubuncket.

A cubic foot of stone is 10 hit points (from weight) and perhaps also Stone Flesh?

Exactly the same?

The aiming situation would be very different (height is only one of the components describing an arced shot).

The angle/direction and force of impact would also be very different.

I have no idea how stone Flesh got into this discussion.

Where did you get this info? It sounds like a starting point but the damage could be more based upon momentum of the launch and fall into the target.

If such a stone were to hit a PC, I would think that it would do more than 10 points of damage. If a wall were to be given a rated strength like armor with respect to the amount of hits that it can take, then you could ship away at it based upon the amount of damage inflicted from the stone.

GURPS Low Tech has some info on siege engines. You'd have to convert, but it could be a useful place to start.

Thanks. I'll check it out. GURPS is a good TFT resource because it was effectively TFT 2.0 before TFT Legacy came along.

Keep in mind all siege engines varied greatly in size and power. So basically most anything you come up could be valid.

Any figure (or at least any body part) actually directly hit by a flying boulder, is pretty much going to be pulped, no damage roll required. (Unless, maybe, it has an anti-missile spell, and the GM rules that works on flying boulders.)

But also, any direct hit on a figure is certainly going to be due to luck.

Of course, there are also risks of damage if a flying boulder lands near you, depending on what else is around, etc.
