There is a moment of hesitation in the pond, and a little awkwardness, and then they are all splashing each other and laughing and swimming and diving. There aren't actually all that many of them: maybe a dozen boys his age, or within a year or two. (good reaction roll of 12, plus four for looks and pitiable)

There isn't really any meet in the soup. Is that maybe shrimp? No, where would they get shrimp? its some small cooked crustacean.

The Boys try to get Julian ready for the dance, but its just too hard. He's moving his feet at the wrong time and his arms in the wrong direction... its a surprisingly hard dance. Or maybe all dances are like this.

Julian gets a few names from the boys. Ramat is something of a natural leader, though everyone treats him as a troublemaker. Yasib is apparently the funniest, though maybe that works better with language. Tirik is the biggest and strongest of the lot.

The boys stay up late... as everyone is going home they seem to be just be getting started. They seem intent mostly on throwing things in the water... but no one wants to be in it now that its dark and the night chill is coming.

Well, it is a pretty small village.
I find the practice frustrating. "Left right left left right left?" no, it's "Left right left left right right" except when it's "Left left right left left right".
I channel my frustrations into getting better at the dance. I will figure this out!
Well, even if it's only for a few weeks, it's better to fit in. Maybe I'll learn the language before I go this time.
Well, there's no waves on this water. I look for rocks suitable for skipping. Well, rocks I think could be suitable for skipping.
Well, this looks smooth enough... Let's see how many times it will skip:

This seems new to them, and they all want to skip rocks.



Julian is skipping rocks when he feels something behind him. Something similar to Telekinsis and Vasic. Something far away, but still close.

It feels like the ship from his dream.

I turn around. The sky is usually clear, maybe I can see it.

Julian squints. The sky is clear and he can see the stars. And, maybe, yes. There is the ship from his dreams, hovering in the sky above the sand, headed towards them.

I get the other boys attention and point out the ship. I'll try to say something like, "Hey, what's that?"

They have a much harder time finding it, but eventually Ramat sees it and starts explaining things to the boys that seems to help.


gesturing back and forth, the boys don't know what it is. Maybe a cloud?

The picture really helps. They think maybe it might be? They look at Julian for confirmation. Its clear they've never seen anything like it before. Perhaps he has?

I nod. At least, that's what I think too.

If Julian is asked something along the lines of, 'is this good', he'll say no. If asked what the ship does, he'll mime out the carnage he saw in his dream.
