They know about at least lakes. Which are far far away from here. Maybe there is an ocean.

Well, I guess it's a possibility. I ask if it ever rains without magic.

It sometimes happens. Mostly in other places. The Cammel-Riders know more about that.

I ask them about the Camel-Riders. Who are they? Where are they from? What do they do?

This is all in gesture....

They ride camels all over the desert. They eat camel milk and wear cammal hair. Some goats are involved as well. And they have dangerous warriors. But the rain people have warriors of their own, maybe? that aren't here right now.

I find it some what of a relief to hear there's no army nearby right now. That never seems like good news.

Today people are perhaps a little more excited. There is going to be a party or something like that tonight. Food and music and dancing. And splashing? Some people are happier and work harder. Others are happier and work less.

The Sun beats down on Julian and the others, but when it is still high in the sky, the end of the day is called. And then everyone goes to a spot just outside of town and starts calling rain in a spot that isn't a plowed field. Its a basin of what looks like dried mud...

I slack off a little.

I guess the idea is to fill this. Or make a big mud pit. I wonder if the mud will stick to me for says. It'd be better if... Forget it, anything to get out of this heat.

They indeed fill it up, and the resulting pond is surprisingly clean. some spots are extra clean, lined with tiles of some sort. Everyone wades in, washing themselves with their clothes still on, and laughing, and smiling. The youth Julian's age are splashing each other on one end of the pond (someone seems to have told them to stay away from the tiled areas).

There is extra food tonight: real bread, dipped in some sort of vegetable soup with big chunks and a strange sweetness.

Then there is a dance. Its... quite structured, and a little too complex for Julian to follow. But not quite choreographed. They have drums and clapping and some strange woodwinds. Several boys try to get Julian to try some of the basic dance moves. They seem to be testing him in some way.

I join them in splashing about.

I watch the others as they eat. For them, this probably a rare meal, but for me it's pretty typical, well, save the meat. Who decided this is? If the Concordance were here, I imagine this village would be so flooded in food that their farming would collapse... Well, at least I can't do anything about it.

I try to follow the complex dance.

4 + 1 + 6 = 11 ... failure
In a 'well, I might regret this later...' move, I'll try lucking it.

No change. Hopefully a difficulty modifier...
