Need clarification for Munchkin: Disney

We played our first game of Munchkin: Disney on Monday, and I suspect we were playing it wrong.

Specifically, the "Princess" Class has an ability:

"Once per round, on your turn, take the top Treasure discard, if it has a value of 200 Gold Pieces or less."

well... as it so happens, MOST of the Treasure cards are non-item cards, and thus... have a value of 0 Gold Pieces. So ruled the "Game Owner".

As a result, the top discard pile ended up with things like "Go Up A Level", giving the Princess player free levels.

I suspect the card's INTENTION is that only "item" cards would be available for the animal friends to scavenge, meaning that the card must have SOME value listed in Gold Pieces.

(After asking Steve Jackson support this question, rather than answer the question themselves, they redirected me over to these forums I had previously had no knowledge of.)

I would guess non-item cards, like GUAL cards, do not have a defined value, so the Princess would not get to keep them -- "...has a value..." being the key phrase.

You are correct.

Only items (those cards that either state a value or say "No Value") can be targeted by this ability. Cards like GUAL would not be legal targets.

I note that the FAQ itself makes a different distinction, and thus the working on the Princess card comes into question.

From Important Note #5: https://munchkin.game/gameplay/faq/

"Items and Treasures are frequently confused. An Item is any card with a printed Gold Piece value (including the phrase "No Value," which means "0 Gold Pieces"). Most of them are Treasures, but some are Doors. A Treasure is any card from the Treasure deck. Many of them are Items, but not all."

And again, the Princess' ability is referring specifically to the top "Treasure Card" and does not make any other distinction about it needing to be an Item.

It has to have a Gold Piece value to be targeted by the Princesses ability.

"if it has a value of 200 Gold Pieces or less."

That right there dictates that it must be an item as only item's have value.
