The two of you stand there, processing the information...

It appears Yi is probably headed to the caves. Or to the estate.

Hassami: "Are you sure this man told you his true intentions? Do you swear he means harm to us? What are your plans to catch him?"

"I can be sure of nothing or I would not have bothered you in the first place. I have told you all I know, and warned you of a threat that I think is coming your way. I am willing to defend you, or serve you as you will, as I feel I have a part to play here. I have sworn the oaths and will dance upon the strings tied all about me. What would you have me do?"

"He said that he wanted to slay Bel for some bauble. Given he had multiple locations where he figured he could come up with how he could get the secret of Bel's immortality, I think it's fair to say that his goal is in fact to slay Bel. I don't think it's for a bauble though. My plan to catch him amounts to "Surveil, and ambush"."

Hassami: "Try and meet him before he reaches the compound. I don't want any of my girls dying because we wanted to let him all the way to the tombs. If you wish, I can send a guardian or two. And deal with him. If it is helpful, we keep an eternal fire here."

"If he is in a new body, let us hope we will know him by his beloved trophies... I will do as you bid. Halcyone, shall we?"

Vassarious abandons subterfuge and resumes their natural draconic form and dips their wing in invitation for Halcyone to ride dragonback.

"Yeah, time for a grid search."

The girls do their very unsuccessful best to not look impressed, and the two fly into the sky. I expect its just before noon, with the sun high in the sky.

You have a pretty big area to cover. How will this search be conducted?

Also, a review of the oaths made:

"It seems we are bound up in your destiny, Yi Belan. If you will swear by your prize that you will deal with us honorably, I believe we can offer you our assistance."

Well I have half a mind to go ask Corco for more microbots and hives so we could see everybody who tries to cross a line in the sand, but I doubt he'd go for that.

If I'm not wrong, we got a general area he's within, and he's on foot, right? Surely we could use the manoeuvrability of a flying dragon to rapidly search the area and find people crossing the desert. Maybe start with roads and areas where people generally are before moving on to the middle of nowhere? Maybe tracks could be left behind.

Surely these are all void given that Yi broke his agreement to cooperate.

Perhaps Vassarious should have asked...

Halycone suggested a grid. They pointed to a map and said "go"

I suggested we should guard the caves and the family, and indicated we were there because going to investigate would leave the apparent target unguarded.

They want us searching the desert... It makes little sense to me, but I'm obeying.

That is a review of the discussions leading up to the actual oath... the oath itself was glossed over. Disappointments and masters finding us seemed to be passed over in favor of the last one, but we made no actual mention of what the "pact" itself was other than to deal with each other honorably, which Yi appears to be in violation of as, unless he did not deceive us and this is all a big misunderstanding.

So it seems we're good and any harm he visits upon us will be visited upon him twofold, and if he swore by his prize, he can't obtain whatever it was that he was motivating him in the first place.

Vassarious will agree to a similar arrangement, that fair and honorable dealings will lead them all to their goals and failure to do so would lead to their mutual disappointment.

So if he deceived us, faked his death, or what have you, he's fated to fail. Of course that wording indicates any betrayal sours the pot for ALL involved, so he can't get his prize, but we can't our despot down either as that was our goal.

Just in case there is reason at all to believe otherwise, can you please specify the actual wording of any oath we swore between the posts?

We're never getting off this tangled yarn soaked in honey with bugs on the way skerry are we?

Fair enough. I had thought he had sworn his oath, and you had sworn your suggested oaths. If you want him to have sworn the two-fold oath, he can have sworn that as well, in addition to the prize oath.

The words quoted were what I thought were exact.

However, merely swearing the oath is not sufficient: you need a witch to take the oath and turn it into a spell for it to have an effect. You've monitored your fate enough to know that Yi cast the spell.

But if you attack first, does that change the betrayer from him to you?

You didn't swear the "honorably" oath, he did...

Sounds like you're pretty confident you're all good!

I'd say you're pretty darn close.
