Re: [Thaumatology] Magic Item Design Game
The Eye of The Storm is a bit of a misnomer. It is not an eye, and it is not the eye of a storm as that term is typically used.
Th Eye of The Storm is a monocle on a stick-handle. When held to one's eye it creates the same effect for the user as is she had cast an Invisible Wizard Eye spell, but... -it costs no fatigue, -it maintains indefinitely as long the user Concentrates and holds the monocle to her eye, -it can be moved slowly or any speed up to instantaneously, -it is simple and intuitive to control by the user, and -it manifests only at the site of an ongoing battle (anywhere within and up to one mile from the edge of the conflict). Eofel was a brilliant painter, most famous for his landscapes. He was always hiking off into inaccessible places looking for the best vantage, so the enchanter Prental made him a perfect portable easel as a courting gift. The Easel is infinitely adjustable, with as many points of articulation as needed for any position. It holds a canvas of any size up to 6' by 6' still at any angle and prevents paint from dripping off it. It has fold-out palettes which provide hundreds of shades of paint, and compartments for brushes. Finally, the whole thing can be folded into a 10" x 6" by 4" box with a carrying strap, and when folded weighs only 1 lb.

Also known as the shocker, this glove covers your middle, index and pinky fingers. It grants you +4 in gambling, sleight of hand and sport games – billiards rolls.
As long as you wear the glove, you are also "Impressive", a distinctive feature (quirk) that makes you stand, but also gives you +1 to reaction rolls around gamblers and the like. Next: The eye of the beholder. |

The "Eye of the Beholder" is a mirror of great craftsmanship and beauty. As a magical foci, it can be used as a scrying tool and is enchanted as such to support that use. It's quite good at it owing to its quality and value, providing additional FP for scrying spells and spell maintenance. However, it has a rather peculiar effect that's rather subtle and seductive. When not being actively used, but is being handled or otherwise viewable (say, on a table) it will show the user something (or someone!) that they find beautiful. What the mirror shows is always unique to the viewer, and two people gazing at the mirror at the same time can see totally different things. Distressingly, this effect has an engrossing effect on the viewer and can cause them to find themselves staring at the mirror for hours at a time fully entranced by the vision they see in the mirror. This strange power of the mirror has not directly caused harm to anyone, but the nature of the vision has fomented jealousy, sadness, and isolation among its owners over the ages. Whether this is something the mirror is doing, or simply the angst caused by seeing what you truly hold to be beautiful is not known. |
Re: [Thaumatology] Magic Item Design Game
The previous poster failed to give a prompt for the next entry. To keep the thread going, I will make up an item.
The Platonic Eraser This is a gaudy, hot pink eraser that appears normal at first glance. Rubbing the Platonic Eraser over text will cause it to permanently disappear. Text can be erased regardless of medium. Stone and wood will regrow to erase carving. Rubbing text on a computer screen will modify the underlying data structures to eliminate that text. The main limitation is that the Platonic Eraser will never erase its user's words. Next: the Typewriter of Joy |
