Re: Discord
Is it me, or is it just that Discord lives up to its name by being chaotic? I see all kinds of TFT channels, but few with any focus readily apparent. Somebody want to read me in by PM?

Re: Discord
Expected schedule:
#twm-general-chat chain gang adventures Tomorrow evening and alternate Saturdays thereafter. #adventure-1 Seems to be ongoing #adventure-3 Washed ashore on the mysterious Proc island. To be continued whenever the players show up. They haven't gotten very far as so far they don't know Jack. #adventure-4 Will start up soon-ish. Evil (er ill-behaved?) sorceress has transformed the villagers on the island into anthropomorphic animals (or has she?). The players must investigate and resolve the situation. #adv-6-tollenkars-lair-spoilers Donno when this will start. |
Re: Discord
Alll the channels are active at various times, the Adventure channels are very stagnant as of right now, apparantly the players have JOBs, which has proven a bit diffcult to maintain a playing schedule in the various Adventure rooms, it just needs more player participation.
50 states in the union, plus Internationals, and we can't seem to get 5 people together at once...lol |

The server has grown significantly over the past two months. This is due to increased interest in Discord members who own the game to play The Fantasy Trip by post with others who are separated by a great distance. This is awesome, but it added a lot of channels to the server, which can confuse new (or long-time) members. I'm planning to write a guide to the server itself. In the meantime, I wanted to answer some of your question to help new members get started. Channels are grouped with related channels in categories. If you're new to the server, you may choose to only use the WELCOME and MAIN groups. Most of the non-game activity occurs in MAIN, and WELCOME contains the rules and basic information for new members. Many of the channels' names are The Fantasy Trip themed (one is #bendwyn-square, for instance), so PC users can read an explanation of any channel they enter at the top of the Discord window. Here is an overview of the channels in WELCOME and MAIN to help you get started: WELCOME
MAIN
There are things to do to mute or ignore channels you're not interested in using. I can explain to members who are interested. Restricting yourself to these channels until you're comfortable with the server should help. The community is made of TFT players, which is synonymous with passionate, helpful, and friendly, so they'll answer any questions. If you have any questions or need help while there, I always answer correspondence sent on Discord by PM/DM. To those who visit: I hope you enjoy the server! |
Re: Discord
Thanks! This was very helpful.

Re: Discord
Great! I'm glad it helped to clarify the TFT Discord world. The server is equipped with hex maps with its individual hex IDs and virtual dice, so players who can't get together in real life can set up their real games at home and play-by-post, the way people in the Avalon Hill era played their games with remote opponents by mail. There has been an increase in members playing TFT online, especially with member HCobb involved in three simultaneous campaigns (!). There is one channel group called "Adventures", and each adventure has three to four channels:
Adventure-2 is reserved for games of Death Test, and adventure-6 is for a game of Tollenkar's Lair, which is being planned at the moment. Both are marked that there will be spoilers, so those who haven't played those modules (like myself) may avoid reading things that reveal secrets of those games. There is always room for new adventures. Whenever the final set of unused adventure channels gets taken, I set up a new vacant adventure channel set. Since there's been a lot more people playing TFT live on the server in the past 2 months, the ADVENTURES channel group has gotten large and maybe even bewildering. I'm considering breaking up each adventure into its own channel category. One thing that I like about the #Adventure channels is that when a scenario is through, you have a real-time record of the excitement of a TFT game as it actually happened. It's the equivalent of an annotated chess game. Members can scroll back to the beginning of an adventure log and read it. If you're looking for adventure now is a great time to visit. You may try to gather people (either your own friends or existing members) to play a new adventure, or request to join one in-progress. |

You're never obliged to do do, but it would be totally mint if after the adventure, you wrote a summary and post it to the channel as a .pdf attachment. I'd love to read it. |

I am overwhelmed. This might take me a while to understand. |

Re: Discord
Nota bene: Getting your mic to work on Discord can be tricky--at least I found it so. The Push-to-Talk function may not work if you are in another window or tab (such as your virtual table top), and the app that you can install to make Push-to-Talk funcion globally might not get along with your computer. On top of that, there are a few places where you may have to turn your (or someone else's) mic volume to the desired level (I never would have guessed to right-click on someone's icon to change their volume, for instance). Even after reading a few "How To" pages, it took the kind efforts of a very helpful GM to remotely walk me through it before I could get it to work acceptably.

Re: Discord
If you're new and are having difficulty grasping the server, just post in the #dungeon channel that you're new, and we members will help you get the hang of it, before using some of its advanced features.

Re: Discord
A new adventure is beginning: in the #Adventure-7 channel group, a team is preparing to play Metagaming Concept's Security Station module. The party is full for playing, but members are welcome to watch.
And TFT Discord is not just for adventuring. There is game discussion, a channel for having rules questions answered, updates on new and upcoming expansions, and more! There's even a radio station. |
Discord
#adventure-7 We have finished the first running of Security Station.
The group was very successful until the final (and deadly) room. The Orc Barbarian Garekk managed to get out alive with a vast quantity of loot and is considering whether or not to return to extract any more loot. Unfortunately, his 2 companions did not exit with him ... [Historically, there is about a 25% survival rate on the final room for those who do not have prior knowledge.] If there is interest, I may run this again. As others have stated, trying to find an agreeable time slot is the hardest part, with players scattered all over the world. We ended up with 1 player on the US West coast, 2 participants on the US East coast, and 1 player in between time zone-wise. This enabled us to play once a week for 2-4 hours per session. The players provided their recommendations for improvement and I will take them into consideration for the next running. The module itself as written is 40-ish years old, yet can be run fairly easily with the recent ITL ruleset. |

Re: Discord
There are several adventures on the Discord group, but even if you're not looking for a play-by-post game, Discord has lots more to offer TFT fans:
If you're not a member, but love the game, why not stop by and visit? It's an awesome place because of the active members. |
Re: Discord
One of the things people enjoy about the TFT Discord server is conducting play-by-post adventures in real time. Most of the games died down except one, and a second on hold, so there are many channels available for anyone who wants to begin an adventure or even a Melee/Wizard skirmish. What's nice about this form of playing is that there's a written record of an adventure, much like an annotated chess game. Spectators can read or study this account as it unfolds in real time, or after the fact. With many open channels, now is a good time to try an online game. There are many members, so you may ask for people to join (or oppose) you and someone will.

The TFT Server just crashed. Several us were posting just minutes ago, but it's gone now.

Hacked by the Mnoren, no doubt.

I have emailed Tollenkar, but there's been no response yet. Hopefully, he knows the right spell to cast.

Re: Discord
I just started another server so we don't lose any people until Tollenkar is back or we know what happened?
I have a link here: https://discord.gg/WzkuKf94Nh I will make any old members from Tollenkar's server an admin. So this will be a group effort to stay on line on Discord, and not some sort of coup attempt. If the invite doesn't work try sending me a friends request on Discord and then the link should definitely work. Quirky2 #0855 Let's keep the games going and hope we don't lose any members until we are back on track again. If for some reason Tollenkar isn't coming back as admin, I will put this server into the hands of the admins, but that is hopefully a problem we don't have to face. |

Does anyone know what happened to the Fantasy Trip discord? I was part of it for a while now and then in the last couple days it just disappeared, and all the links are expired.

Re: Discord
It's great to see the server growing and attracting new members. I'm glad to hear that the increased interest in The Fantasy Trip is leading people to Discord so they can play by post with others. With all the new channels that have been added, it can be confusing for people to know where to go and what to do. I think it would be helpful to have a channel that lists all the channels and their purpose, as I did with my discord art server. That way, people can easily find what they're looking for and know where to go to get the information they need.

I think most of us who are active on the server would agree that Discord has limitations, but it's also very convenient as a forum to dump ideas or questions and get quick feedback. It's social tool, first and foremost so I guess you have to be OK with that before you get too invested. |
