Then you would use Artist (Sculpting) instead. :o)

'Genetic,' in this context, does not mean 'DNA molecules,' it means 'whatever a species uses to carry heredity.' The inheritance molecules of the various crystalline life-forms of the Tholian homeworld are different from DNA, but they clearly exist.

This is probably the answer to question IV, unless the consensus feels that something needs to be changed:

Tholians answer IV

The Tholian castes are as follows:

Soldiers
Hunters (militaristic, but more scouts/skirmishers)
Laborers (big and strong)
Artisans (intellectuals and makers)
Caretakers (for the young and the sick, as well as working in many service rolls)
Queens/Reproductive

While the Caretaker caste does much of the work of healing, medical research, like other forms of scientific research, is more often a matter for the Artisan caste.

The Queens are fertilized by members of each caste, as directed by the mind of the hive, which is both shaped by the members (and by how many of each caste the hive contains), and determines how many of each are likely needed by the hive in the future.

Thoughts?

I mean, I virtually wrote it, so I'm happy. I was expecting the "Queen" level to grab some of the more complex stuff for heirarchy others were using.

Which would the group prefer, a new Tholians question, something on the Caitian races, or something else?

How about a recap of what we've got so far?

For Tholians specifically?

Question I: How varied are the Tholians mentally from one another?
Answer I: 2. The Tholian race form a number of telepathic hiveminds with limited range.

Question II: Can individual Tholians move from one hivemind to another?
Answer II: 4. Hiveminds are formed and broken up quite regularly

Question III: How varied are the Tholians physically from one another?
Answer III: 3. Tholians are born into a series of related body-types based on intended tasks (warrior, worker, thinker, that sort of thing), and show rather greater dimorphism between castes than within them.

Question IV: What castes should the Tholians have?
Answer IV: is in post #453, above.

I meant in general. I know, it's a big project, but knowing what we've covered so far overall can help figure out the next move.

The first two posts have a table of contents, with links. Since I'm not certain what you're asking for beyond a list of things we've talked about, directing you there seems like the best answer I can give, because trying to summarize everything that we've discussed beyond what you'd get by looking at that list is beyond me at the moment.

OK, since we weren't able to really answer each others questions, I finished writing up a question that I started on earlier:

Caitian/Felinoid races question I

How many Caitian races are there?

1. Just the baseline Caitians and the Kzin.

2. The baseline Caitians, the Kzin, and the Lyrans.

3. About five to seven felinoid races.

4. About a dozen felinoid races.

5. Something else (please specify).
