Curse!Cursed Thingy

This has been asked before but the answer wasn't very clear to me...
From what I understand in the card text, the Curse!Cursed Thingy should apply to an item that gives you a bonus or special abilities in battle. So, can it be put to an item that is turned sideways since it currently gives you no bonus? If I don't have any items in play that give me combat bonuses (only one shots and items turned sideways) do I ignore the Curse?
Thanks!

If you add Cursed Thingy to an Item that is currently not equipped, the Curse still affects it and gives you a penalty.

If you have no Items in play that could be Cursed, the Curse fizzles, just as with any other Curse that doesn't have a legal target.

Maybe I didn't understand it well..What penalty do I get from the Curse since I wasn't using the item already (for other reason)? It's like the Curse doesn't affect me at all.

Sorry, I was confusing it with a different card - my fault for not reading closely.

I'll have to take this up with Steve; this card was written when the game rules were far less codified than they are now, and my guess is at the time we didn't allow you to carry unequipped Items.

In the interest of not feeding debate from people who live to pounce on every contradiction they find on these forums, I'm closing this thread until I have time to look over previous rulings and see if I want to change my mind.
