Terminology Codification of Rules Concepts

Terminology Codification of Rules Concepts

I become rather particular when I write my own rules (or rewrite rules of games I like to fit my own quirks and foibles)

One of the things I rely on (again this works for me, I’m not saying it works for everyone, or should work for everyone) is a system of codification where terms that are used repeatedly are defined in the rules (usually in an appendix)

In Melee and Wizard the Options (a defined term) available for a Unit (Figure, as defined in the rules) are derived from determining the “State” of the Unit at the time that it is its turn to move. These States are Disengaged, Engaged, and InHTH

But this word, “States,” is my word, and is not codified in the rules that I can see

Does anyone have a better term, something that can be codified, for the “States” a figure is in when determining Options?

Stance?

but it's funny if an Italian have to suggest an English word to an American...

"state", or it's common variation: "status", sound just fine to me.
