Recovering special arrows

Arrows can be made of unbreakable orichalcum, and permanently enchanted at great cost (in the DFMI supplement). Suppose a character fires two of these over the course of one fight, likely among other, less valuable arrows.

Is one of the expensive arrows automatically lost because scrounging recovers half the arrows and there's nothing else to allow recovering them?

If only one had been used, would it be automatically lost because GURPS rounds down?

Yes, unless the GM wants to use some complicated house rule to assess the odds of each particular type of arrow being recovered.

Yep.

Arrows = consumables. Even expensive arrows = consumables. Don't buy them unless you can afford to shoot money downrange.

The 10x price re-useable arrows gave me the impression that it might not be entirely crazy to hope to use them ten times.

Well, cunning delvers will find a way. The name of the game is cunning. ;) The Apportation (beforehand) and Seeker (afterward) spells should work just fine, for instance . . .

Thank you.

So DFA88 is not about what happens to arrows, it’s about what the Scrounging skill can do.

Yes. That's why it's under the Scrounging heading. ;)

And of course there are cases where the rule just doesn't make any sense. If you took down a monster with a single shot - a hit to eye with your Indestructable Arrow of Monster Slaying, it's not like you don't know where it went.

Yes! The rule under Scrounging isn't for that. It's for all the arrows and such shot by one side in an actual fight. If you fire one special arrow at one special target, the GM should be using Rule Zero, not generic rules for a skill.
