Are there other Hero cards available in the first release?

I'm curious whether there are other Hero cards in this first release besides the ones in the Starter Decks?

I guess I've seen a special one for the Draft format (is that legal outside a Draft format?), but I'm curious whether there might be other Heroes lurking in packs that are different from the Starter ones.

There are John Kovalic alternate art hero cards in the boosters. The same six heroes as the starters, but each illustrated by John.

The Goldfish Wanderer (neutral) hero is in the event kit.

The Flamingo Wanderer (neutral) hero is in the second event kit.

Were either of those at the pre-release events? I didn't see any promo cards (though I can't complain, as we got snazzy Jumbo D6s).

Those neutral heroes were not. Those will be available from retailers during draft events.

I did see a few alternate art hero cards pulled from boosters at the stores I visited.

Cool. Are the Neutral Heroes playable outside the Draft format?

At home, totally. I do not know the exact tournament rules, so I'll let someone else tackle that.

Right now, the constructed-deck rules require you to use one of the six starter Heroes (or alternate-art equivalents), plus neutral cards and the cards of that Hero's class (color). The neutral Heroes are better for draft because they make a wider variety of cards usable in your deck.

I got a Thief in the boosters we won at PAX South. I assume it's Alternate Art but I can't confirm. We didn't get a Thief deck at the event.

Yep, that's a John Kovalic-illustrated Hero. You can also check the rarity; the alternate-art Hero cards are all rares, I believe.

The Goldfish Wanderer will not be a tournament legal hero, just draft. Feel free to play with it at home though.

Thanks! Now I just have to get my hands on one (or more).

Not even being sarcastic. This is why you gotta talk with your FLGS. My store already has the Organized Play packs on order and is setting up drafts as soon as the game hits shelves. I cannot wait!

That is great! I've found draft is my favorite way to play; it changes up the way you look at the cards and the Goldfish Wanderer allows for some fun card interactions.

I'm very curious about how the draft is going to play as well. Plus I *need* to see the other heroes locations something tells me getting a fun location out and doing a fair bit of cheating is going to take it to another level I am fully ready to be on board for.

My FLGS is doing the launch event, and another in April. Unfortunately, the launch event is on a weekend where I have a prior commitment.

Draft is anytime. I can't find the link atm but the OP box is $5 or free with 6 booster boxes. They've been posting about this everywhere. And Andrew or Philip just said they're shipping out February. You could be drafting as soon as the product is on shelves... I'm not sure where the confusion is.

Draft is whenever somebody else organizes one. I'm not in a position to organize one, so my opportunities are limited to what gets organized at my FLGS. I can't just pop in any time and do a draft whenever I feel like...

I'm sure I'll get a chance eventually, but you are making it sound like I can just do it whenever, which perplexes me.

Technically, if each player already has a Goldfish Wanderer card, a group could go in on a display of cards and run an in-home draft. But I think he means that stores can arrange and run drafts whenever they wish, not that the are company-sanctioned draft dates.

I've got 3 stores within 15 min of my home that draft MTG, Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokemon almost daily. Some are more focused on one game vs others but if you wanna participate you pay the entry and play. They try very hard to keep a consistent schedule and offer incentives for play. There's signage in the store and listings for the events on their socials. I know for a fact two of them will be drafting Munchkin at least once a week since I've spoken to them about it. Have you spoken to yours? They run it, I will pay my entry and play.

What do you want me to say to them, exactly? I'm not going to try to convince them to run weekly drafts, as I'm not likely to make it to one very often, and have no personal knowledge of the level of local interest outside myself. I presume they have a better idea than I how often they should run events. I just check their calendar. There are two events listed. I can't make it to one, but will try to make it to the other.

"Hello my name is Ed, I was wondering if you were planning on running any drafts of Munchkin CCG in the next couple of weeks?"

Did I mention that they have a comprehensive calendar of events? I'm pretty sure I did. I check that to find the answers to those sorts of questions. And the answer to that question, as of now, is that they have two Munchkin CCG events planned, one of which I can't make, and one of which is not until April. You want me to call and ask a question for which I already know the answer? I'm not seeing the point. If they add more events, I will find out when they add them to the calendar.

I feel like I'm being judged, but I cannot for the life of me figure out why...

Re: Are there other Hero cards available in the first release?

I think the point that crestedskew is trying to make is that the store can't know the demand for a particular type of event unless their customers are expressing to them an interest in such things. If you're the second, or twentieth, person to ask them about it, that is information they can take note of when planning their events.

If no one is ever proactive and doesn't say anything how will anyone know anyone's interest in anything? My closest store has MTG every day. Every day. I stop going years ago cause none of it was of any interest to me. Then board gaming had its resurgence and I came back in and starting talking with people. Now we've got board gaming things going on a regular basis along with the all the other CCG stuff and have Munchkin drafts in the works. You gotta start somewhere. It's great that you know they have something on the books. Better is knowing that you've spoken with your shop and met up with others who share you interest. Maybe someone else already has a deck too and has been looking to play since this weekend. Make a new friend. No judgement dude. Just pointing out sitting on the sidelines never helped anyone.

OK, I get where you are coming from. I guess my problem is that I don't want to be misleading in the effort to be "proactive". As a busy father of three school-age kids, I'm not going to be the guy that gets in there a lot to play in drafts. My level of interest is, "I went to the pre-release event with my son, and we both enjoyed ourselves, and will almost certainly be playing the game at home. I'd be open to possibly attending another event VERY occasionally, as time and finances allow." I do want to play in a draft at some point, but my probable level of involvement is low enough that I would feel bad if they took MY expression of interest into account when deciding how often to hold them.

I just feel like, if I'm asking my FLGS about putting on events beyond what they already have scheduled, I'm giving the impression that I would be likely to attend any such events they put on, when in reality I would likely NOT, most of the time. I'd rather they gauge interest in that sort of thing by hearing from the people who WOULD want to show up regularly for such events.

That's fair. Hopefully your schedules will align. I imagine extra copies of the goldfish will be wandering about soon enough so you'll be able to play at home at your leisure.

The Goldfish Wanderer won't be hard to get, if that is a concern. Hopefully you do get drafts you can attend near you, however.

Thanks. I imagine a Draft would be the most FUN way to get it.
