Slam and shield rush versus shield

Nothing in the slam rules say anything about the defender’s shield.

A has a medium shield. (+2/-2 damage on rush)
B has a large dwarven meteoric large spiked shield (+6/-3 damage on rush)
A rushes B. Does A really roll thr and B thr-4 and B almost certainly falls down and that’s it?

Interesting. I think the obvious house rule is for a successful Block roll to let he defender use their shield's modifiers here.

A successful block means nobody takes damage and nobody falls down. Even if a halfling gets shield bashed by a giant.

An unsuccessful defense means attacker and defender both take damage.

Parries suck because heavy weapon rules and Dodge makes sense.

The only way this is an issue is if B doesn't successfully defend, in which case I am not sure why their shield should matter.

Exactly. If the victim fails the active defense roll, the shield isn't even in the path of the attack – it's way out to one side, above, turned 90°, or otherwise irrelevant. If the victim succeeds, the rush is blunted regardless. Corner cases where the shield is barely there in time and increases damage to the attacker but doesn't block the attack are way too fussy for the Dungeon Fantasy Roleplaying Game (and arguably for GURPS).

Incidentally, dwarven and meteoric are expressly exclusive; see the footnote. The maximum damage bonus in a rush is +3 for a large shield, +1 for dwarven or meteoric, and +1 for a spike: +5.

Makes perfect sense. I was somehow confounding the image of shields clashing into each other with a successful shield rush.

Blocked rushes having any effect whatsoever is far beyond the reach of DFRPG.

Thank you!
