Bard Song vs Face Armor

Face armor gives -4 to Hearing Rolls. Bard Songs affect everyone within hearing range.

Would anyone consider hearing penalties such as wearing face armor or having the Hard of Hearing disadvantage to add to the subjects resistance to a Bard song?

I don't think I'd want to get that granular since the Bard song has to be heard, but it doesn't have to be heard well or understood (most of the time) for the song to work. However, I thought it was worth some discussion here.

Probably it depends from the musical instrument used.

It's written in Adventurers (Musical Instruments) that Bagpipes, Drums and Horns are audible for miles so maybe these instruments "bypass" the hard of hearing/face armor penalties.

Ordinary hearing penalties don't apply. If they did, the noise of combat – never mind helmets – would make Bard-Song useless, which is not the intended behavior. The split is "can hear at all vs. cannot hear at all" . . . if you could at least try a Hearing roll, however bad, the magic can affect you. The wording "the deaf are immune" is meant to be prescriptive.

You could give them a hearing roll. I'd say that most instruments (within normal combat range) would be at a +6 or more (I'd actually give most a +10), so even with the -4, it'll take someone with pretty poor hearing to not hear the music.

Edit: or just do what Kromm says :-p
