Printing cardboard heroes
 

Are there POD services that can take the cardboard heroes PDFs and turn them into actual heroes like what was included in the DF boxed set? I can see wanting additional copies of some of the creatures, and it would be nice to have real versions of the past cardboard hero PDFs that were included in the Kickstarter.

If you have a printer that can handle card-stock you could probably print them yourself. If your printer can't most office supply stores have a copy center that should be able to handle it.

The new Cardboard Hero's in the DFRPG Boxed Set are over 1/16" of an inch thick, card stock is not equivalent. If you have Ogre 6E, they're made out of the same stuff as the counters in that set, or standees in Munchkin.

That said, I have got a lot of use out of card stock Cardboard Hero's over the years.

I use 110 lb. cardstock in my inkjet printer for tri-fold figures, and it's certainly "good enough."

But if you're looking to print things onto chipboard as heavy as the Ogre/DFRPG figs, my suggestion would be adhesive printer paper. Print what you want, cut it out, peel the backing, stick it on. (Or, ya know, old school -- just print what you want on regular paper and use a glue stick. Either way, gamer arts and crafts time!)

Is there a chance that they will release better better quality versions of the pdf? The actual in-box cardboard heroes look fine, but the pdf has major compression artifacts (Same goes for the map.)

Can you be more specific in what you're having an issue with? (I can't quite tell if you mean all the PDFs — including the booklets — or just the Cardboard Heroes . . . and, if the latter, what's not looking right about it to your eyes.)

The cardboard heroes and the maps especially.
Here's a zoomed in, and hopefully non-infringing example. There is a huge halo of compression artifacts surrounding the art (and on the art) but it is especially noticeable on the otherwise white background.

I think it's in almost all of the digital documents, but on the maps and the cardboard heroes especially, the things that people might bring to a nice print shop to make copies of, it's especially upsetting to think I might pay for a first rate print job of some good quality art, but compressed for a 56k modem.

I've uploaded a new version of the ZIP package with revised files for the maps and Cardboard Heroes figures. I don't think these will make a difference for most users, but hopefully the bump in quality will help with some of the more-ambitious applications (while still keeping the file sizes manageable for the majority of devices and PDF readers out there).

Instead of submitting Errata or in addition to?
