Incantation Magic web app

There is a beta of my Incantation Magic spell creator web app currently available. I think this is feature complete, but could use some feedback on layout and usability.

The application is here:

Leave me feedback on this thread.

I had offered to help... then life got in the way. Sorry about that. This is pretty awesome.

I noticed that when you get past 3d, your calculator doesn't allow for dice like 4d or 4d+1, only -1 and +2. I recognize that the book gets a bit wooden about this, but there is a clear line of progression that it seems reasonable to follow from the chart to get 4d and 4d+1 before getting to 4d+2.

Looks interesting, but the "add modifier" story needs improvement. Right now, it requires a few superfluous interactions:

- When opening the selector dialog, you pratically always have to expand the combobox. As this contains just a few values, an expanded multiselect widget woudl be better.
- Once you add the modifier, you want to enter values, white requires expanding the section. As not needing to do that is the exception, the default should be an expanded section.

Can you provide a step-by-step description of how you found this error? I just tried it and the damage modifier progresses as I expected: 3d+2, 4d-1, 4d, 4d+1, 4d+2, 5d-1, etc.

I suspect you had unselected the "direct" modifier, which makes the damage "indirect". From the Incantation Magic PDF, page 15:

Quote:

Indirect damage is triple that of direct damage for the same cost (e.g., a 3d+3 reball costs +1 SP) – or just doubled if it is also explosive (e.g., a 2d+2 explosive reball costs +1 SP).
Triple damage progresses like 3d, 4d-1, 4d+2, 5d+1, 6d, etc.

Agreed. I'll take a look at modifying both.

A new version has been uploaded. The changes include both items mentioned by MHD:
  • New ritual modifiers are added to the expansion list as expanded by default
  • The dialog to add ritual modifiers uses a multiselect list instead of a dropdown select

Take a look and let me know what you think!

Some of the spell modifiers don't seem to let you reduce the level once you start increasing it. Damage, for example.

Altered traits, too.

It would be nice if you could just type in the amount of SP a modifier adds, adding Extreme Regeneration took me a while of clicking.

It's still faster then typing it all myself, very convenient.

Re: Incantation Magic web app

Updated the app again today. This version changes Altered Traits so the user enters the trait and its cost. Traits may have a flat cost (e.g., Flight, 40 points) or may be leveled (Hard to Kill, 2/level), or even leveled with a base cost (Magery, 5 points + 10/level). Altered Traits do not use the + and - buttons to increment their costs any more.

I also (hopefully) fixed the bug with reducing Spell Points in Damage after you've added SP.

Today's update should work for you then, since you now enter details about the Trait you are adding. Now you can add an Altered Trait, enter "Regeneration (Extreme)" in the TRAIT field and "150" in the BASE COST field.

I'll start looking at the other ritual modifiers to make similar changes. Maybe I can get rid of the +/- SP buttons.

Hey, I think I fixed this. Can you verify that it works for you and your browser?

Works for me (checked Damage with all modifiers in all possible combinations on Firefox 56.0 64-bit)
