Epic Orc Ability

As in every game my group plays we have a dispute. Below is the scenrio.

A player is at level 19 and knocks on the door. Two curse cards were flipped and their effects were carried out. At this point the player chose the pick a fight with a lvl 1 monster. He declared he was using his epic Orc Ability which eats the monster for the win. Can the other players wander in monsters at this point.

One players argument is that once the monster was laid down a combat was declared and therefore they can wander in monsters.

The other players argument is that a player is not in combat until they declare they are fighting the monster. Because the player chose to use his epic Orc Ability and eat the monster instead of fight it, there was no combat and therefore players cannot wander in any monsters to extend the players turn and stop the win.

Thanks in advance.

Eating the monster is still fighting the monster. Other players could interfere with the fight if they wanted to.

Re: Epic Orc Ability

Ok. I had read on other comments regarding the Epic Orc Ability that it wasn't actually a combat and there was no fight that took place. This must be incorrect.

[Mod: Please don't quote rules or card text.]

So you can see the misunderstanding we had because this apparently can be stopped. (ex. wandering in a monster to force the player to run). By forcing the player to run away, they gain no levels or treasures from the fight and therefore the Munchkin Munch can be stop with no benefit or reward.

You're right. I was wrong. I should have checked the text, but it's Saturday and I'm lazy.

I appreciate you taking the time to address this scenario for the group. As mentioned, we have some heated disputes so this probably won't be the last time we ask for your guidance and expertise.

I am one of the other munchkins that was involved in this game. During the argument, we looked up and found multiple examples where this question has already been answered. Most of these have a SUPER MODERATOR answering that you can wander in a monster after a player uses his epic orc ability on a level one monster. This is just a few examples:

After reading a few of these during the argument, it was a agreed by everyone other than Mikal, including the Home owner and game owner. (people that we will leave any final decision to if we cannot reach a conclusion).

We have been playing this game regularly for a couple of years now and have been familiar with this rule for some time. We have used probably between 6 - 12 times in the last 6 months alone. Which, I'm sure you understand, makes this argument even more petty

I'm closing this thread and will look into the question in more detail next week, if I have time, or after Gen Con.

Please don't refer to other posters' comments (or other posters themselves) as "petty."

It certainly seems that after 2005, I took a pretty firm stance (probably thanks to Steve offering his opinion to me privately) that you can't do anything to prevent the Level 1 Monster from being "munched," but in no way did that mean that the whole combat was unstoppable. If you could stop the Orc from defeating any other Monsters added to the combat (before or after the munching), that level was forfeit.
