Play race after being forced to runway
 

Playing Bites! an opponent played flee powder on me and thus I had to run away from combat.

My question is- since it was my turn, am I able to play a new race card before the runaway attempt (since it is my turn and races can be played at any time on your turn)?

I clearly believe based on that general rule that I could play it but another player argued that I couldn't because I was thrown into the runaway phase.

Any official assistance in answering this would be helpful.

You cannot play a Race card in reaction to being forced to Run Away; you must roll and deal with the results of the roll first.
