Thursday is GURPS Day: Links and format!
I'll be aggregating GURPS content each week for a weekly roundup to be posted on Thursday.
The short version:
This set of instructions has evolved since the concept of GURPSDay went live. We're now scraping all GURPS posts for the week, rather than just the GURPS posts that we get on Thursday. The Long Version 1. Send me an email at gurpsday@gmail.com This will get you on my GURPSDay mailing list, which I will use sparingly to contact people with questions or requests or 'hey, this doesn't work anymore' 2. Give me your critical information In order to get you on our list, you need to provide me with: Your Blog's Name Just paste in the title of your blog, as you want it to appear. Your Blog's Landing/Home Page URL This is just to ensure that we get it right The name by which you want to be credited Either a name or pseudonym, but keep it classy. If I can't read your pseudonym to my daughter (she's 6), it won't go on the list. A validated RSS feed that filters on a tag for GURPS This is important, because it's how we'll scrape your blog for keyed posts. That means that you do have to tag your posts GURPS. It also means you probably have to figure out how to enable RSS in Blogger, WordPress, or whatever you use. You will need to know if you're using RSS or Atom, but we can figure that out if it doesn't work - that's why the email to gurpsday@gmail.com is so important. A list of tags, labels, or categories that will let us screen for content The categories may be case-sensitive, so if you use gurps instead of GURPS, or GuRPs for some unknown reason, that needs to be included. But January was my best month ever, Feb is fourth, and March is tracking to replace Feb as #4. For unique users, my first year was about 1,600 per month (Google Analytics). Then from there it climbed, fell, and settled at about 2,700-3,000 per month through July 2015. It jumped hard to 4,700 in August 2015, probably coinciding with me deciding to do more D&D5e, settled a bit, and then slammed to over 5,000 with the advent of GURPSDay for both Jan and Feb. March looks to be about 4,500 if trends continue. I'm not sure what to do to break out. I've started posting some of my things on Twitter (I avoided it for years), and already I'm seeing some more traffic. But I think, overall, you're right - networks work when the net is wide, and we're mostly acting as amplifiers for each other , which is good. |

GURPSDay is live!
I'm back! I updated and reran the script - its hit and miss what works, which is bizarre. One of my bloggers told me that RSS can be a tetch unstable, so multiple combined runs are the way to go, and that's what I did, and it worked. One blog even came back an error one run, and fine two minutes later. Anyway, 37 posts, which is about 10% light for a typical week (which should be about 40), and we got a new blog on the roll. The links below represent an incomplete pull. The RSS feeds were pretty light as of 7:30am this morning. We have a few new blogs on the rolls, but I'm not sure if we've got them all straightened out yet. Everyone needs to tag their posts GURPS to get included in the script, and that may or may not have been done. May is GURPSDay recruiting month. I'm hoping to more than double the number of blogs we pull from over the next 6 weeks (faster would be better!). I've already received two new blogs, though only one is reflected below because I need a few more details from the second blog's author. Thursday is GURPSDay, and as of today, GURPSDay is about six months old. Oh, and it's also my 15-year anniversary. That picture there to the right is probably from 2000 or 2001, when we got engaged. A long road and two children later, we're still here, and I'm gaming more than ever, so something must have worked.

Thursday is GURPSDay, and a happy day it is. The DF Kickstarter fully funded and is now smashing stretch goals, and though we seem to have had a bit of a light week for posts, there's a lot of good stuff out there, especially in the GURPS forums. Go check it all out!

Thursday is GURPSDay. We're entering the last day of the Dungeon Fantasy Kickstarter. It fully funded during Day 16, about four days ago, and is still going strong. It looks to be pushing to around $155,000 plus another $30K from W23 sales, which gives us the 180,000 stretch goal of a month of Pyramid (one issue) for all backers above $50.
Below you can find the blog activity for the last 10-25 posts for every blog that has posted. This is a lot of posts - the GURPS blogging community has picked up rather a lot of steam recently, a phenomenon I hope that GURPSDay has helped with to a small degree. I can only offer this exhortation: back the Kickstarter. Blog more. Create more. Refine your writing technique and participate in the community-driven submission process that is writing for SJG. Do you still run the script around 11am Central on Thursday? I thought I was safe getting the placeholder post up by 10am, but I seem to have missed the cut-off. I really need to just find a way to post on Wednesday nights instead of scrambling every week. EDIT: Just noticed your blog says, "Over the last week as of 8am..." but I thought I'd leave this post up if you wanted to confirm what time(s) you generally round 'em up. :) |

I run the first script before I take my kids to school. This tends to be between 7-8am CST. I TRY and get home slightly early on Thursday for many reasons, and that means that when I can do this, I can run it again between 3:30 and 4pm. Today I had a meeting from 3-345p, got home at 415p, and promptly took my kids to gymnastics which went, as it always does, through to after dinner. Then blah, blah . . . in short, on "three runs" days, the key times are about 7:30am, 3:30pm, and 1030pm CST if you want to catch the first, second, and third runs of the day. That second run gets dropped if my work interferes. If it helps, I just ran it about an hour ago, and will probably do it in 30min as well |

Thursday is GURPSDay, and for those that don't know, GURPSDay started in Feb 2013 or so, as an informal thing where certain bloggers would try and get posts up, sometimes coordinated, based on GURPS on Thursday, which happens also to be SJGames' release day for new products.
About two years ago, it drew positive notice from SJGames, and diverse bloggers such as Jeffro Johnson, Merlin Avery, and a few others helped me write and run a PERL script that will pull from RSS feeds that are made known to me (at gurpsday@gmail.com) and tagged or categorized "GURPS." We're in the middle of GURPSDay's second year. And at the link below to Gaming Ballistic, you will find usually 40-60 posts each week on a very diverse set of topics.
