Door kick - start of turn

can you play an item on your turn before the door kick?

(Other players turn ending I want to beef up my items before I confront a potential monster on the door kick)

You're not forced to kick open a door as the first action of your turn. You can freely play cards and then kick open a door when you're satisfied.

eedee is correct. You cannot Look For Trouble before kicking down the door, however; you have to kick first.
