Fantasy Folk Trolls?
I have a lot of interest in trolls, and feel I could write up a damn good
suppliment, but I would like to know if this would attract enough interest for it to become an approved project, even though 4e Fantasy Folk submissions are on the E23 wishlist. Please ring in, and if enough of you are for it, I will get cracking. |
Re: Fantasy Folk Trolls?
Trolls aren't as standardized in fantasy like elves or dwarves are, so it seems like it'd be harder to write "the" troll book. But it could be more interesting to cover because of that.

Re: Fantasy Folk Trolls?
My intention would be to focus on the DF troll player race, and include a build up of the Fantasy stone trolls, the Andersonian Troll Peter Del'Ortto built for DFM1, and assorted variations (giant, giant two headed, issues of multiple heads vs multiple personalities) with a focus on a workable culture and an assortment of templates and character paths.

Re: Fantasy Folk Trolls?
Don't forget the stone trolls from Discworld while you're at it.

Re: Fantasy Folk Trolls?
And the trolls that turn to stone in sunlight, as depicted in Tolkien's works. These were based on someone's mythology, as I recall... possibly the Norse.
(That the Norse often used terms that translate into "troll", "dwarf", and "dark elf" almost interchangeably doesn't help, though.) |
Re: Fantasy Folk Trolls?
If you submit an article it has to be baed on Banestorm and existing GURPS work according to the wishlist.
It might allow an alternate chapter but the core is pretty much laid out. |
Re: Fantasy Folk Trolls?
I had already reviewed the wishlist template, and the trolls in Fantasy are the turn to stone variety. Discworld trolls I need to see.

Re: Fantasy Folk Trolls?
3E Fantasy Folk was based on 3E Banestorm. Trolls are in 4E Banestorm on P199.

Re: Fantasy Folk Trolls?
Thank you, I will have to pick it up; I had 3e.

Re: Fantasy Folk Trolls?
For what it's worth , here's one of My versions of the creature .
The concept is that a primal spirit world underlays reality and reflects local conditions ; in the worst of urban hellholes , Trolls can arise and some find their way into mundane reality . Troll [41 Points] 7'6" 250lbs SM +1 ST +5 [45] IQ -4 [-80] Per +4 [20] Will +4 [20] HT +2 [20] Basic Speed +0.5 [10] Advantages Absolute Direction [5] , Accute Smell +4 [8] , Breath Holding 1 [2] , Claws (Sharp) [5] , Combat Reflexes [15] , Damage Resistance (Tough Hide and Cold) 2 [7] , Descriminotory Smell [15] , Enhanced Move (Land) 1/2 [10] , Fearless 2 (not Vs Fire) [2] , High Pain Threshold [10] , Immunity (Disease) [10] , Metobolic Control (Hibernation only) [18] , Night Vision +5 [5] , Parabolic Hearing 1 [4] , Penetrating Voice [1] , Recovery (Not Vs Heat Induced) [9] , Regrowth (Not Vs Burn Damage) [20] , Regeneration (Fast) (Includes Fatigue ; Not Vs Burn Damage or heat fatigue) [75] , Resistance (Poision) +3 [5] , Sharp Teeth [1] , Temerature Tollerance (Cold only) +6 [6] , Unaging [15] Disadvantages Apperance (Hideous , Universal) [-20] , Attentive [-1] , Bad Smell [-10] , Bad Temper [-10] , Beserk [-15] , Bestial [-15] , Blood Lust [-10] , Callous [-5] , Cannot Float [-1] , Clueless [-10] , Disturbing Voice [-10] , Dyslexic [-10] , Frightens Animals [-10] , Gluttony [-5] , Increased Consumption 2 [-20] , Innumerate [-5] , Noniconographic [-10] , Odious Personal Habit (Eats Sentients) [-15] , Reputation (Abominations/ Mindless , dangerous monsters / Everyone) -4 [-20] , Vunerability (Fire x2) [-15] , Vunerability (Hot Weather Fatigue x2) [-15] Trolls are abominations born of places where great corruption has twisted the near Wyld . The most degenerate or cursed men reincarnate as Trolls , allways hungry , never sated and without love or happyness their whole lives . Trolls have extreamly energetic metabolisms that grant them great powers of recovery , resiliance and strength at the expense of needing massive food intake and a vunerability to hot weather . They hibernate in summer and must gorge themselves before hand lest they starve . Their language is a simplifyed version of whichever culture spawned them and they are asexual and do not breed . All creatures find them instinctivly disgusting or threatening and intuitive response is either flee or destroy . The long lived of the specie are those whom had the cunning and will to buy off some degree of Beserk and such making them far more dangerous by dint of being less predictable and more patient . Rapacious hunger forces them to travel as they strip regions of food and they will tend to gravitate toward colder climes . Sample Troll character : Hungry {not actually His name , but when asked "who are you ?" , He said "I'm hungry !"} 150 Points Race : Troll 41 pts. ST 18 [+27] DX 12 [+40] IQ 6 Per 12 [+10] Will 12 [+10] HT 14 [+20] Basic Move 8 [+5] Common Sense [10] Enemy (Bounty on Trolls and Him in particular) [-20] Poor [-15] Social Status (Outlaw) -4 [-20] Area Knowledge (Here) (Per Based) 12 [1] Area Knowledge (Last place) (Per Based) 12 [1] Area Knowledge (Place before that) (Per Based) 12 [1] Boating 11 [1] Brawling 14 [4] Broadsword 14 [8] Climbing 13 [2] Tracking (Per) 14 [2] Navigation 10 [8] Running 14 [2] Hiking 15 [4] Survival (Forest) 12 [2] Survival (Urban/Sewers) 11 [1] Possessions : SM+1 Club {an oar suitable for the role} [Dam 3D+2 Cr , reach 2 , parry 10] SM+1 Pot Helm {actually a metal pot , but it works} [D.R. 4 Skull] Cheap knife and some shiny stuff Hungry found His way one day into a city slum , ated some people and got chased into a sewer by people with scary fire things . He lived a bit in the sewers and even ate someone with a scary fire thing that stopped being scary and went "Spuft !" when it fell in the water {He knows how to beat that now !} then He found a hole outside the city where He found a man in a funny looking hollow log that moved when He push the water backwards with a club . He ated the man and discovered He could make the log move too when He pushed the water backwards and it was full of yummy fishes ! There was this thing too that looked like someones' brain place but was really hard {and tasted funny after He had licked the food stuff out of it} and Hungry remembered the men with the scary fire things had some on their heads but this was bigger and He put it on His head and it made His head harder ! He also found some shiny things that are shiny . Hungry ated the fishes in the log and then ated stuff down the river until His log broke {:(} and now He lives in the forest near the river where there is things to eat and when someone has scary fire things He throws them in the water and they go "Spuft !" . 10 out of 10 so far , will make "Spuft" again ! |
