WM-protector

Hello!
Today I've played Munchkin and was close to die, but I decided to use Wandering Monster card with strong monster to protect myself. I won the battle, but I want to know:
can I use WM card+monster to protect me? (sum of powers)

A Wandering Monster is added to the fight against whomever is in combat. The Monsters do not help you, they want to hurt you.

A Wandering Monster card is always played with another Monster to add that Monster to the Monster side, as the card says. That Monster never helps the player side.
