Adventure Time Munchkin: BMO's gender ability

In Adventure Time munchkin, BMO's ability reads something like: "You recieve a +2 combat bonus against monsters level 10 or below. Also, BMO ignores all gender related effects (because I don't know)"

There are 3 ways that I could interpret this:
1) BMO counts as male and female
2) BMO counts as neither male nor female
3) BMO counts as male and female when it benefits the player and, BMO counts as neither male nor female when it benefits the player

Take two cases: the broad sword (if you're combining sets) and the Ice King.

Under the first and third interpretation, BMO would be able to equip the broad sword. Under the second interpretation, he would not.

The Ice King's bad stuff says that males lose a level (I think) and females skip their next turn.
Under the first inerpretatin, BMO would suffer both of the effects of the bad stuff. Under the second and third interpretation, he would suffer neither of the effects of the bad stuff

So, in Adventure Time Munchkin, how does BMO's ability work?

Re: Adventure Time Munchkin: BMO's gender ability

Getting a benefit when it suits you is not ignoring a gender effect. BMO says to ignore all gender effects because BMO has no gender. This means that anything that says it can only be used by a member of a specific gender can not be used by BMO. The rules also go on to say that if a Bad Stuff or Curse effect can't affect you, then that's okay, nothing happens. So, losing to Ice King for BMO means that the Bad Stuff effects you mentioned have no affect. Any effects his Bad Stuff might have that are not related to gender would, though I'm fairly certain there are aren't any other effects.

In other words, #2, which means that BMO can laugh at the Ice King, then sit down and play video games while the Ice King fumes impotently before storming out of the room to commiserate with Gunther.
