Flipped Cards
I played my first game of Munchkin 2 days ago and ended up playing 2 more games with in the next 2 days. I was wondering what the rule are on flipping your carried items face down so that no one knows what you are carrying. One of the guys I play with did this and we couldn't find anything in the rules that says you can't do this. Is that a legal move or must all carried items be face up?

Re: Flipped Cards
In play cards must be face-up. The rules say this: "In Play: These are the cards on the table in front of you, showing your Race and Class (if any) and the Items you are carrying." The word "showing" is pretty telling that these cards must be face-up so that everyone can see them whenever they want. Any cards that you have on the table and are face-down should be considered part of your hand, which has a size limit.
One important things about the rules: They tell you what you can do. They are not responsible for telling you everything that you can't do. If they did the latter, you wouldn't be able to carry them. In other words, if the rules don't tell you that you can do it, and they don't tell you can't, you still can't. |
Re: Flipped Cards
The most recent printings of our core games now include this note: "Cards in play are public information and must be visible to the other players." Consider this official errata if your rules don't say that.
