Spraying Mace...

Hey o lords of GURPS knowledge.

Last session one of my players wanted to spray a foe to the face with Deodorant, for the sake of session flow I had him roll a simple DX roll to hit. I have earlier tried my search-fu in the books. I didn't find anything other then rules for tear gas. What I am looking for here is suggestions how, or a place where I can read about this.

TIA

Dirty Tricks are in the Basic Set. You might want to start there.

I once got in a fight with a guy who sprayed some kind of paint or oil in my eyes. I apparently won anyway, at least that seems to be the consensus. I think he wasn't expecting me to fight back at all.

"Spray Guns and Aerosols," HT180, specifically for Pepper Spray

Deodorant isn't going to be nearly as effective. Seems more like a Dirty Trick to me, causing Mental Stun and maybe a small penalty to vision for a few minutes.

Dunno, most spray deodorants say to flush your eyes with water for a long time, while calling a doctor. It's REALLY hard to see if that stuff is sprayed directly into the eyes.

As a teen, I killed a wasp with right guard.
It left a nice smelling corpse.

I had a guy spray paint or some kind of thick black lubricant into my eyes, I did have to flush my eyes afterword and see a doctor. This didn't stop me from fighting back in the moment though.

If a can of deodorant that costs a couple of bucks was as affective as pepper spray that costs a lot more, nobody would use pepper spray and tear gas grenades would be filled with Old Spice.

Pepper spray has much longer range, and (temporarily) blinds people even without hitting the eyes directly. Deodorant, on the other hand, needs a direct hit to the eyes. Sometimes, blind fighting wins just because the other guy doesn't expect it!

And you believe that to be the generic, universal result? I wonder if you didn't just make the appropriate checks so you could continue on with minimal impairment.

Are the rules for pepper spray overly simplified? Getting dirt thrown into your eyes can cause issues in RAW, can't it? Pepper Spray is debilitating; deodorant (or hair spray or whatever else) is a comparatively mild irritant. Even if you close your eyes "in time", doesn't mace still cause pain?

Okey, that is what i was looking for. As for the efficiency of deodorant, I think it can be quite nasty if you get it sprayed directly into your eyes.

As for a cloud of Deodorant, the only effect i can think of is -x on reaction rolls for cheap stuff. :P
