Badass Ethnic Weapon: Pendulum Axe
 

The pendulum axe stems from the demented minds of Riotminds, who made the Trudvang RPG - which I am converting to GURPS.

It is an "axe" where the axe-head has been rotated 90 degrees and placed on the end of the shaft. Like so:

The edge is sharpened and the ends of the "arc" are pointed. So I'm thinking maybe thr+2 cut, sw+1 imp (may get stuck), Parry 0 and can hook. Weight 5 lbs., ST 11 and costs... more than an axe? $100? Something like this.

And again, this is obviously a "rule of cool" weapon.

ETA: I suppose it's kind of like a pick with the top of the head sharpened.

A Vulcan lirpa. Or one end of a monk's spade (stats on LT 68). So yeah, more or less a sharp shovel

Looks good to me. I picture these guys focusing mostly on Defensive Grip Parries and Weapon Slams until they get the enemy on the ground, and then AoA Thrust to the Neck...

Either way, I'll echo the idea that it sounds like an Monk's Spade with the Cool Ethnic Weapon modifier.

Because AoA to a guy on the ground with a normal axe wasn't cutting it.

Nah, because getting the guy to be on the ground with a normal axe wasn't cutting it. Once he's down and has -4 to attack and -3 to defend (barring specialized Techniques and/or Perks), the exact method by which you finish him off is kind of a non-issue; the pole-length just enables Sweep and Long-Weapon Slams.

Seems to me like you could add the flail's defensive bonuses too. That is if it actually swings like a pendulum.

It doesn't swing like a pendulum, but you use it in a swinging pendulum motion.

This sounds a lot like a lawn edging tool to me ... I remember thinking one of those might be a cool weapon when I was a kid, but my dad then pointed out to me how it would suck compared to a real axe...

It seems to me that one way this weapon could live up to its name is with the following special feature:

When using the Tip Slash technique, the pendulum axe does Swing +3 Cutting instead of the normal damage for that technique.
