Ann: "We always keep so many secrets. We're worried about the reactions. We've had one or two bad incidences from not being secretive."
Leon: "Does your government know about you? have you told them?"

"They might know about me. There is some organization after me, and I'm not their first Jumper. I don't know who knows what, but enough people know stuff that I think the government has to know. Maybe I should try and land in the oval office when I go home. Then I should find out for sure."

Ah, yes. the life-force sucking. Probably best to let sleeping vampires lie.

Ink Thur: "They're worried about me, aren't they. I only need a way off. One world is enough for me. And I'm frankly exposed outside of the divine realm."
"They are worried about their security and anonymity. We are a threat, but also an opportunity. It doesn't hurt that I also saved their asses a couple of times, but it's not the castaways I shepharded that are going to be calling the shots. I'll try and make a deal, or at least lay the groundwork for you."

Quote:

Peter brings up his dreams with Ink Thur, and then asks if Ink Thur is coming with him as he shifts his dreams to the pristine realm...

Ink Thur vanishes from his dream. He sees An-Kona, looking at a map by herself while looking over a cliff.
Peter lingers for a few minutes to examine the map and scene, and to see if Ink Thur can find his way to follow. If Ink Thur does not appear, Peter will try and turn the dream back to the "Dragon Enemy" they seek in the valley he dreamed of before, where Ink Thur may be able to catch up. He will see if he can get a better fix on the dragon in question.

If Ink Thur catches up:
"This is where I'm drawn to when I think of your quarry."

When Peter awakens, he is anxious to introduce himself at the Mage's guild, but will wait until after breakfast to announce he wants to head there after lunch if they don't get word by then. They'll know where to find him when their people are ready to talk, and it will probably make it easier for them to bring this crew in for debriefing without showing Peter even more than they may wish to about their local operations.

Rajat: "I don't know about the oval office... the secret service has a paranoid streak. How would be the best way to do that..."
Leon: "An ex-president will know as much as a president in most cases, and be easier to reach. Cabinet members are also more accessible, if you can get the right one. Of course, that requires some research to target."

Ink-Thur: "Keep in touch. I suppose I would be a nasty enemy, this world would go crazy with a path off of it, and I certainly don't want a dragon to get loose. But I have a lot to offer, and I only want a single ride for three."

Its a map of water sources. She's pouring over it, looking at distances and thinking about something.

Ink Thur doesn't catch up in the dream.

So you basically plan to let them go, rendezvous, debrief, and then pick him up from the mages guild? They're good with that.

They would actually rather go in the morning: They're anxious to get home.

The mage's guild is built like a castle, but the stones are interlocking, like puzzle pieces the size of a big package of 48 toilet paper rolls. That style is common in the city, actually, but the guild building displays it move ostentatiously than others.

Peter presents his letter to the doorman (he can't tell if he are closer to a butler or a guard), and after a short wait, he is admitted inside. The inside is lit with magical lights that looks like smokeless heatless fire. In some ways the building looks like a courthouse or office building. A few people move around attending to business, all wearing robes.

A Middle aged woman comes out. "Peter Von Thur, welcome to the Tedroy mages guild. I understand you have come to register, and you come recommended by Oracle Gregory of Minimasa. The recommendation is unusual. Do you wish to practice magic in Tedroy? Privately or as a Business? For how long? It effects the fee."

Is there some ritual or something we can do so you can talk to one of them like this directly? I'm not sure how much faith they will have in the promises of what you can do for them once you've already gotten what you want."

Peter will go with them in the morning if that's an option. He was only going to push ahead if they were stonewalling them. If they were just waiting for morning to go in, we can just do that.

If they ARE stonewalling on the security thing, and the others can go in without him, Peter will go ahead to the guild.

"Um, so I can sense magic, so i was sent to Gregory a few days ago, and I had two lessons. I can find water and food, but I haven't quite got the hang of finding North yet, but I guess that's not bad for two lessons. I couldn't stay there, so he gave me this letter so I could find a teacher here. I have to pay something?"

Ink Thur: "Zin-Sel is divine. The other was a local mortal wizard I employ."

"Yes, once we're out, we can all find out way home. At least the ones who came on the expedition."

"This means of communication only works because you're essentially one of my priests. I don't think we even have the infrastructure to do that here. I can pass on someone they can negotiate with on my behalf, and I'll happily come up to Tedroy and negotiate with them on neutral ground somewhere. Or a spell to talk with them somewhat like this can be set up... though not as nice as what we have here."

"I have considerable resources here, if that is how they foolishly insist on payment"

They prefer to go ahead without him, but if he pushes for it, they will relent (Peter beat Leon's will, mostly due to good dice rolling)

"You only pay if you need to cast. If you are looking for a teacher... we have a list you can put your name on. check back every day or so to see if someone is willing to take you on as an apprentice."

They made contact the night before, so we were waiting to be brought in, and I had said that if Peter didn't hear anything by lunch, he would want to look into his own thing while they wait.

If they want to go in in the morning without Peter, they would be the ones bringing up the subject of them all leaving. That could be awkward...

But in the end, Peter wouldn't be too worried about it. He would like a way to reach them, and an assurance they would be in touch soon. Any additional resources he might be able to use to make himself comfortable while he waits would be nice.

Peter will be polite and clear, and try and charm the woman as best he can.

"What's your name?"

"I'm sorry to put you out, but I just don't know the rules. So if I want to use magic, I have to pay you? It would be privately."

"So is that like, just Yrth magic that you cover, right?"

"I'm not much of a 'list-guy'... Who's the best? I'm more a 'go-out-and-get-him-guy'. If by some miracle I could get them to take on a student, who would that be, and where can I find them?

They take him. The place looks like a merchant's office on the docks: "Swan's Imports and Exports", with a little bit of styling on it. He's asked to sit on a bench while the others 'conduct their business'.

Eventually Leon, Ann, and a woman who looks very local and very rich invite him back. Despite her apparel, she speaks in a British accent.

Woman: "I am Joslyn DeCamp. You've done a great service for us. I understand this is not your first time dealing with homeliners. How can I reward you? I understand your interest in the material is limited due to how your jumping works."

Her name is Farah.

"Yes, if you use magic in the city, you pay the guild. not me specifically. but I can take your payment."

"What other sort of magic is there? We do not claim jurisdiction over supposed miracles or petty tricks"

"Try Ravalen over there. He has been searching for an ambitious and powerful apprentice. You might just fit his bill."
The man indicated looks more like a warrior than a wizard, a striking figure, flaunting his wealth with gold trim on dark red robes.

"Hello Joslyn, I'm Peter. I'm happy to have been of service. Room and board while I'm still in town is reward enough for me, but I do have a friend who has a pretty big ask. He's a god of technology who needs three tickets to anywhere out of the sargasso and is hoping to deal. He has some power and resources here, vast power resources elsewhere, a deep knowledge of the banestorm and interworld stuff, and has had a good look at your conveyor and seems to understand it, and has picked up on the fact that you have some coordination offworld. I haven't confirmed you could actually get them out, but they have a pretty strong suspicion that that's the case. I've agreed to try and open the line of communication between you."

Joslyn: "what level of technology? This must be a miserable place for such a being, they actively suppress most of it here."

"That's... a big ask. We operate in secrecy, and this world will easily turn massive resources against us if they figure out who we are."

Peter will examine the guy and approach him. Peter senses a spell currently on Ravalen. Its similar to what transformed the man into the beast*. Is this shapechanging magic? It has a different source, but a similar effect.

"That's really interesting actually. His world is in like a bunch with some other ones, and they have different tech. They worship him on a world with this impossible clockwork tech, and they have portals to one that's pretty much just like my Earth, and he get's the tech from all of them it seems... I got the impression he internalized your conveyor's schematics and what they meant when he found your tech."

"Is it a big ask tho? I mean, My guy did help me get your three guys home, so it seems pretty fair to get my three guys home."

"The fact that he's asking means you have a problem, but granting it solves it. Making a deal with him to get off world is in the interest of keeping your secrets, since he already has suspicions and has some clues on where to start his own investigation. He totally gets that this getting out would cause chaos, so he's not inclined to let that happen, but he may cause trouble for you by poking around looking into it on his own if he doesn't feel like he has it covered. And that's with no malice intended, y'know what I mean? He's got a dragon to deal with before he goes, so we may want to help him with that just to move things along.

Quote:

"For me?"

Peter cocks his head a bit, as if not understanding her for a moment while that processed.

"His pantheon is at war with duplicates and a dragon or something, and the people of his worlds are suffering and I just want it to end. I've been using my dream walking to act as an emissary between the people and their gods, and have been getting caught up deeper in their war."
