Note: Charisma and Voice both provide their bonuses to Public Speaking, so that is only a failure by 1.

I would also lobby that this is not a speech to inspire or entertain, just deliver information, so I'm not really sure that public speaking is relevant, but if so, might it get a bonus?

Peter awaits what comes next...

Peter has indicated he wants to exert influence over policy. Thus he needs to make a good impression, and the roll is for impressing people he will need to convince later.

Peter awaits what comes next...

Peter's mind blanks are saved by the initial captain stepping in an giving a testimonial about his vision, how he saw the memory of himself conversing with Yu-Pelor, that they have a thin connection to their Gods again, and that he himself was shocked that this was true.

When the next mind blank came up, the captain pushes someone else to talk about their experience.

At the end, Kyridas stands up, declares they have access to their Gods again, but that they will need to all testify in public that this mode of communication is legitimate. They drop into a conversation about the best way to go about presenting their proof...

Afterwards, Kyridas sits down with Peter. "From my point of view, you have earned your freedom. I can now give it to you and even if my superior's object, they will see why I have done so. We will want to retain your services, I suspect, Also, you don't seem to have found out about Arn-Oda's status, nor Ink-Thur's location... is this a bargaining tactic?"

Okay, let's use Luck and roll against his effective skill of 10 and see if we can improve things.

Peter brings back evidence of being the one person in their world who can communicate with their gods and he still needs to work to impress them... tough crowd!

"A bargaining tactic? I was just trying to remember so much stuff I didn't bother to ask about the less important things. Yes, that stuff is way less important than getting the names right and the details to convince people. But now the easy stuff is done. On the the hard part..."

The luck improves the roll to a 9... which is a success! Peter will get it back in 24 hours.

Salesmanship is a real thing. And a lot of this is impressing them with how much agency he has in all of this. And Yes, heads of state being convinced to accept that a lone (young) foreigner is their only link to powerful authorities they've been operating without for over eight months is a hard sell to a tough crowd. He made the roll though!

"You mean contracting you to deliver messages back and forth in exchange for a stipend, the release of American prisoners, and a cessation of hostilities with them?"

"I can make a preliminary offer. We will provide you a suite at the temple complex, two personal servants, and the cessation of hostilities and return of prisoners. In exchange, you will make a trip back and forth at least once a week, conveying answers as you are able. You will have a manager and tutor to assist in memorizing and managing the questions. How does that sound? I think I can get that for you."

"That sounds pretty good... but we might have to be a bit more flexible on it being a weekly trip... I don't always get where I am trying to on the first try and it can take a few days before I can world-dream again when I do. But I can make my best effort."

OCC: How long does Peter intend to go back and forth as an emmissary of the Gods?

Re: (IC) Lost In Dreams [Peter]

As pretty much always, Peter is playing it by ear. It seems unlikely to Peter that the god's conflict will drag on for too long without resolution one way or another, at which point they won't need him anymore anyway.

He's been enjoying his trips to the celestial village and Tar-Billik and An Kona's company. He likes working with his hands, and he's benefitting multiple communities while getting the sense home isn't too far if he focuses.

With the raids and prisoners and field burnings and what he's seen of Thuroma, he feels these people are badly in need of guidance. Ending the kidnappings/slavery on this world and interdimensional raids seems a cause worthy of some personal sacrifice. Potential celebrity and political influence could prove useful to help smooth out other injustices Peter has seen. And being called "Emissary" is pretty cool...

...So Peter will do the job for as long as he feels he is doing the most good.

"We will renegotiate if you cannot reach an average of once a week. If that is adequate, I will talk to the king and his generals to work out this deal."

"In the meantime, you may be free... or you may keep your escort and payfund, along with the relevant restrictions, until I have obtained a deal. That may be best, as we need a way to contact you during the negotiations. I suspect it will be a few days. We don't have access to Ink-Thur, which means hiring you will take some skill to leverage properly. "

Kyridas leaves to attend to working out some sort of deal.

What will Peter do during the negotiations?

Later that afternoon, a priest of Yu-Pelor comes on a visit to Peter, asking to speak privately about "divine matters".

Peter will spend some time on Goliath's training, try more of the local food and spend the day playing tourist now that he can move freely. In the process, he will be on the lookout for things the people lack and injustices he may be able to right with his brewing political power.

Goliath loves the attentions, and performs well, as always. Any specific tricks you want to be teaching him?

The city is bustling, but listening in on the conversations quickly makes it apparent what the city "lacks": food. The breaking of the world seems to have caused a food shortage.

Peter notices that the wealthy and powerful often enforce an informal "right of way", with their larger machines or servants shoving others out of the way.

Peter is looking for injustices and lacks in the streets of the city, but thinks back to the burned out houses he's seen out in the fields. And of course, the prisoners he's already working on getting released.

The Priest sits down with Peter, and asks if they can have "absolute privacy", sending out anyone else who could talk. He starts off talking about a secret conversation with Yu-Pelor he wants Peter to verify, then abruptly switches topics:

"So how good of terms are you with Kyridas? as opposed to the king and generals? Nieghboring priests are looking for ways to increase the influence of the priesthood in Thuroma."
