Can the Orc cancel Curses that have been in effect?

Can the 'Orc' Race card cancel a curse against their player when the curse is player, or at any time later, such as when the orc goes into the play after the curse has begun to apply?

The Orc can only cancel a Curse when it is played on him. You can't become an Orc after you've been Cursed with a persistent Curse and use the Orc ability to get rid of it.
