Pollymorph Potion, Tongue Demon, Divine Intervention

Hey guys. Got some questions regarding the three cards in the title. Sorry for cramming these questions into one post. I just didn't want to look like I'm spamming the board.

#1: Let's say Player A is about to win the game. He has the monster defeated. Players B and C don't have any cards that can get the monsters' combat strength over that of Player A. Could Player B use Pollymorph Potion to turn the monster into a parrot, giving Player A the treasure, but not the winning level?

#2: If a player is dealt Divine Intervention in their starting hand, is the card played at the beginning of that player's turn? Or could they play a Cleric class card beforehand (if they hand one)?

#3: Does everyone have to discard an item before combat with a Tongue Demon or just Clerics who suffer the +4 to monster strength effect? Secondly, does the item have to be equipped/carried or can it be discarded from the players' hand?

We'd actually rather have separate threads (with descriptive titles, of course) so it's easier for other people to find questions that have already been answered. But this post is short enough that it's not that much of a bother.

Sure can!

This is covered in the Munchkin FAQ, but the short answer is that if DI is in a starting hand, it is played immediately and all players have a chance to play a Cleric card if they have one to benefit from the level.

Everyone must discard an Item from the table. Only effects that specifically mention cards in your hand may target them.

Only the player who faces the Tongue Demon by kicking open the door has to discard and Item from the table, not everyone in the party, and that's also regardless of Class. If the Tongue Demon is added to the combat after it has already started (by a Wandering Monster card or some other way), nothing has to be discarded, and a helper coming into a combat featuring Tongue Demon doesn't have to discard anything, either. All of that is because the card says that "you," and not "everyone," must discard an Item before combat starts. Also, the rules say that no card in your hand counts until it is played. If it's in your hand, it's a card, not an Item, even if it would represent an Item when put in play. As Andrew already stated, a card will specifically say that it takes a card from your hand, and that is covered in the rules as well.

Thanks for the correction, MM. Once again, we see the perils of commenting on a card without the card text handy, especially when one is REALLY damn tired. :-)
